‘Awesome. Just awesome!’ is how a Logan wife and mother described the feeling of being $10,000 richer after scratching one of the top prizes of $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
The top-prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Waterford Plaza News, Shop 21, Waterford Plaza Shopping Centre, Waterford.
The excited winner explained to Golden Casket officials that playing $1 Instant Scratch-Its became a hobby during a tough time for her family.
“When my husband was in hospital a few years ago, $1 Instant Scratch-Its tickets were a fun way for us to pass the time,” she explained.
“Now they’re something we pick up every now and then.
“Being the good man that he is, my husband stopped at the local shop for me last night on his way home.
“He hadn’t quite reached the Eftpos minimum so he grabbed an Oz Lotto QuickPick and a couple of $1 Instant Scratch-Its.
“When you scratch two of the top prize icons, you think ‘I’ll never get a third’. But then I did!
“I never thought we’d win a prize like this!
“We were just excited about getting some tax back. This is a great boost on top of that!”
The over-the-moon wife and mother already has plans for the family’s $10,000 windfall.
“My husband is overdue for a new surfboard. Now he can splash out a bit and get the one he wants,” she said.
“We’ll also pay out the kids’ school fees, which will be a real weight of our shoulders.”
Waterford Plaza News owner Edmond Lee was thrilled to learn his store had sold a top-prize-winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“What fantastic news!” he exclaimed.

Last financial year, there were 158 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.28 million.
