An Atherton woman has received ‘absolutely the best present ever’ for her 70th birthday after scoring one of the top prizes of $10,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket from a loved one.
The winning $1 Win Pigs Fly Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Ravenshoe Newsagency, 38 Grigg Street, Ravenshoe.
Sharing her excitement with an official from the Lott, the woman revealed she had received the tickets as a gift for her milestone birthday, but she wasn’t sure from who exactly.
“My husband and I play scratchies fairly often and we just celebrated our 70th birthdays,” she explained.
“A few friends and family members bought us scratchies, knowing we love them and we put them in one big pile and scratched them.
“I don’t know who gave us the winning ticket, but I’ve phoned everyone who gave us some to let them know and say thank you!
“It is absolutely the best birthday present ever!”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her instant windfall, the overjoyed winner revealed it had come at the perfect time for much-needed home renovations.
“This has just come at the best time! You have no idea!” she said.
“My husband has had some health issues so we need to re-do our whole bathroom.
“This will really help us out with getting that sorted. It will be such a relief!”
Ravenshoe Newsagency owner Miranda Niven said she was thrilled the win had come at a great time for her customer.
“What wonderful timing fo them! It’s great to hear it has gone to a winner when they really need it!” she exclaimed.
“This is the second Instant Scratch-Its top prize we’ve sold at this outlet. We’ve also sold some big division two and three prizes too!
“Our customers will be so happy for us that we’ve sold a big prize.
“They will be happy to know that a top prize win can happen at anytime, even on a $1 scratchie!
“Congratulations to our winner! We wish them all the best!”
