Aussies are letting their imaginations run wild this week contemplating the life-changing plans a $60 million Powerball prize could bring.

This week’s Powerball draw 1460 on Thursday 9 May 2024 offers the fourth-biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.

The jackpot has surged to $60 million as there haven’t been any Powerball division one winners during the past four draws.

Up to one-in-six Australian adults are expected to have an entry into the draw.

So far this year, six Powerball division one winning entries have collectively taken home more than $270 million in prize money. There have been three wins each in Queensland and New South Wales.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said if one person won the entire jackpot on Thursday night, they’d immediately become the third biggest lottery winner of the year so far.

“Australia’s biggest lottery winners of 2024 to date are the Hawthorne woman and Singleton couple who both took home $100 million in February’s historic $200 million Powerball draw,” he said.

“The Powerball jackpot is on the rise once again and we can’t wait to see if someone snares $60 million this week or whether the prize will climb higher for next week’s draw.

“Whether it's selecting their special numbers, indulging in whimsical daydreams or chatting with friends about what they would do with the winnings, there’s growing excitement among Aussie players about this Thursday’s $60 million draw.

“The last time there was a $60 million Powerball draw was in October last year. For that draw, the peak of sales was at 5.37pm on the day of the draw when 5,763 entries were sold in a single minute.”

“Hot” and “Cold” numbers

  • The most frequently drawn winning numbers from the main barrel include 17, 7, 3 and 9, while the least frequently drawn include 33, 15, 31 and 26.
  • The most frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 2 and 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 14 and 16.

Mr Hart said players should register their entries to a player card or online account so they can be contacted immediately after the draw should they score the division one prize on Thursday.

“As this is the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online leading up to Thursday night’s draw.

“My best advice for anyone wanting the chance to win Powerball this week is to ensure you have an entry in your hands before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night.

“We’ll be ready to make any life-changing phone calls to registered division one winners on Thursday night - so if you do see your phone ringing on the big night, answer it immediately!”
