Aussies looking for an especially auspicious start to 2023 will be vying for the chance to become a millionaire in Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw on New Year’s Eve.

Up to one-in-three Australian adults are expected to have their hands on a ticket for this year’s $40 Million Megadraw.

On Saturday 31 December 2022, the day of the draw, more than 3,000 Lotto tickets a minute are expected to be sold in-store and online at peak times.

The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said winning a share of division one in the $40 million jackpot would certainly put a spring in your step heading into 2023.

“In previous years, Megadraws have created more millionaires in a single night than any other draw, and we’re hoping this year will be no different!” he said.

“Last year’s New Year’s Eve Megadraw saw 17 division one winning entries share the jackpot, with each entry enjoying just over $2 million in prizemoney.

“Imagine what incredible experiences 2023 could hold for you if you won a share of $40 million on New Year’s Eve. I’m sure it would help kick-start a very happy 2023 and beyond.

“You’d really have something to celebrate this New Year’s Eve with a division one prize in your pocket.”

While Lotto is a game of chance and every number has an equal chance of being drawn, The Lott can reveal the most frequently and least frequently drawn Lotto numbers during the past 35 years.

The most frequently drawn, or ‘hot’, numbers during this time were 1, 11, 8, 22 and 40.

Meanwhile, the least frequently drawn, or ‘cold’ numbers were 44, 30, 14, 27 and 28.

Before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve, Mr Eddy said a select group of Aussies could join the illustrious list of this year’s lottery winners whose lives were transformed forever.

“Will Lotto’s ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers live up to their reputation on New Year’s Eve, and where in Australia where will those division one wins land? Only time will tell,” he said.

“All we know is it doesn’t matter where you are or where you purchased your entry. If you have a ticket in your hand, you’re in with a chance.

“For anyone buying an entry, I recommend that you get in early and register your entry to a player card or online account. This means your prize is secure and we can call you with the amazing news should you be holding a division one winning entry.”

Lotto’s $40 Million Megadraw, draw 4325, will take place on Saturday 31 December 2022.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app before the draw close at 7.30pm AEST on 31 December 2022.
