The Australian towns, suburbs and regions where the most lottery division one wins landed in FY22 have been revealed just in time for this weekend’s Saturday Lotto $30 Million Megadraw.

According to data crunched by The Lott and Lotterywest, in the 12 months ending 30 June 2022, 532 division one winning entries across Australia in all lottery games delivered more than $1.62 billion in division one prize money.

Victoria finished the financial year retaining the title for the state with the most division one wins, with 153 worth $467 million. Remarkably, it’s the state’s sixth year in a row holding this title.

New South Wales and the ACT were not too far behind with 141 division one wins collecting $464.8 million in prize money.

Across Australia, a total of 376 millionaires were created by division one wins – the equivalent of more than one every day of the year.

New South Wales and the ACT welcomed the most newly-minted millionaires, with 109 created from lottery wins during the financial year.

The data also reveals the suburbs in each state and territory that were home to the outlets that sold the most division one winning entries.

  • In Victoria, the postcode of 3199 for Frankston sold four division one winning entries.
  • In New South Wales and the ACT, the postcode of 2444 for Port Macquarie sold three division one winning entries.
  • In Queensland, the postcodes of 4670 for Bundaberg / North Bundaberg and 4740 for Rural View / Slade Point each sold three division one winning entries.
  • In South Australia, the postcode of 5000 for Adelaide sold three division one winning entries.
  • In Tasmania, the postcode of 7250 for Launceston / Newstead sold two division one winning entries.
  • In the top-end, the postcode of 0828 for Berrimah delivered the Northern Territory’s division one biggest prize from an in-store ticket.
  • In Western Australia, the postcode of 6163 for Hamilton Hill / Yangebub / Spearwood sold five division one winning entries.

The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said the results showed big wins could occur anywhere at any time.

“As Australia’s big lottery winners from the past 12 months found themselves emerging from the tribulations of pandemic restrictions, they shared different and unique ways they hoped to revel in their incredible division one wins,” he said.

“We heard from winners who were ready to embark on their first-ever overseas trip since the peak of the pandemic, those who couldn’t wait to share their windfalls with their friends and families, and one winner who even enjoyed a helicopter pub crawl across Darwin with her family.

“While we saw pockets of major lottery prizes across Australian states and territories last financial year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere.

“Some players tell us they deliberately pick outlets that have recently sold a major prize in the hope of continuing the winning streak, while other players choose different outlets, believing good fortune awaits for them elsewhere.

“As many lottery winners tell us, you’ve got to be in it for the chance to win it!”

This weekend is Saturday Lotto’s $30 Million Megadraw – the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment.
