It may not have been on their wedding gift registry, but a newly-wed Cairns couple have happily unwrapped a division one win in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.
The groom’s entry was one of the six division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3867 on 11 August 2018. Each entry took home a division one prize of $671,513.12.
Having been too busy walking down the aisle to check their ticket, the loved-up couple were oblivious to their win until a Golden Casket official delivered the dream-come-true news this morning.
When their Gold Lotto prize was revealed, the couple erupted into spontaneous celebration.
“We just got married!” the winning groom exclaimed.
“This is by far the best wedding gift we’ve received.
“You’ve just made our year I reckon. We wouldn’t have gotten around to checking our ticket for a few days.”
The Cairns man explained he had marked his entry with the same special numbers for several years.
While the couple had yet to decide how they would use their Gold Lotto windfall, they declared it was a good omen of a happy marriage ahead.
“This is all still sinking in,” the husband shared.
“At the moment, I have no idea what we’ll do with it but it’s a great way to start our future together.”
The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning marked 18-game entry at Nextra Earlville News, Shop 44, Stockland Shopping Centre, 44/537 Mulgrave Road, Earlville.
Nextra Earlville News manager Joel Philips said he congratulated the couple on their double win – getting married and winning division one.
“How’s that for perfect timing!” he said.
“We last sold a division one winning entry in April last year, when one customer scored a $1 million prize in Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto.
“It’s great to see another win in store and we wish our winner all the very best!”
So far this calendar year, Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto and Saturday Gold Lotto have created 115 millionaires across Australia.
The six winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3867 on Saturday 11 August 2018 were 1, 23, 8, 15, 44, and 20. The supplementary numbers were 11 and 18.
Across Australia there were six division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 3867 – two each from Queensland and Victoria, and one each from New South Wales and Western Australia.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 249 so far this calendar year, including 60 won by Golden Casket customers.
Last financial year, there were 290 division one winning Saturday Gold Lotto entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions, which collectively won more than $341.27 million.
