A married couple from the Blue Mountains have had a morning to remember – not only discovering they won division one in last night’s Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw, but also racing to retrieve the winning ticket from the bin.

The couple’s entry was one of the five division one winning entries across Australia in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3811 on Wednesday 24 October 2018. Each entry takes home a division one prize of $800,000.

Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this morning, the winning couple recounted the shock of their win, and then the panic of realising their winning ticket was in the bin and the garage truck was on its way.

“It’s crazy! Absolutely crazy!” the happy husband laughed.

“First thing this morning I checked our email and got the Lotto results. I saw the $800,000, but thought that can’t be right, so went and double checked the numbers.

“We then realised we had thrown the ticket out a few days ago so we went through the bin to find the ticket. It took a while, but we found it. Just as well as it’s almost garbage day.

“It’s been an eventful morning. As you can imagine, I couldn’t eat breakfast after all that.”

“It’s just amazing,” his wife added.

“I feel sick – but in a good way.”

While their bank account was about to balloon by $800,000, the man said they didn’t plan on making any drastic changes to their lives.

“I’ll still be doing the washing up,” he joked.

“The first thing we thought of was the kids and how we can use it to help then.  We’ll all pay off our mortgage as well, which will be fantastic.”

The couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their marked 12-game entry at Wentworth Falls Newsagency, 199 Great Western Highway, Wentworth Falls.

Wentworth Falls Newsagency owner Kevin Lynch said he was celebrating another division one win landing in his outlet.

“We’ve been here since 1993 and we’ve had about 17 division one wins over the year. It’s always good to have another win for our customers,” he said.

“Eight hundred thousand dollars is a lot of money! Pity it wasn’t me, but we’re really happy it was one of our customers.

“We’ve got a sign up on the door letting everyone know we’ve done it again and we wish our winner all the best with their prize.”

So far this calendar year, Monday & Wednesday Lotto and Saturday Lotto have created 146 millionaires across Australia.

The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3811 on Wednesday 24 October 2018 were 6, 24, 12, 22, 11 and 5, while the supplementary numbers were 27 and 28.

Across Australia there were five division one winning entries in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3811 – three in New South Wales and one each in Queensland and Victoria.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 318 so far this calendar year, including 86 won by NSW Lotteries customers.

Last financial year, there were 73 division one winning Monday & Wednesday Lotto entries across the Lott’s jurisdictions, which collectively won $73 million.
