An emotional Taringa mum had been waiting by the phone tonight with an inkling she was going to be called with news she had won Powerball. Turns out, she was right and has pocketed the entire $40 million jackpot.

The Brisbane woman held the only division one winning entry across Australia in Powerball draw 1274, drawn Thursday 15 October 2020, scoring the division one prize of $40 million.

The Queensland woman also won division two 19 times, boosting her total win to $40,532,533.90.

Immediately after tonight’s draw, an official from The Lott called the winner, who broke down into tears upon confirmation she was now a multi-millionaire.

“My heart is about to beat through my chest,” she cried.

“You have no idea what this means to me.

“It’s a dream come true.

“I am feeling so breathless! I think I might faint or throw up!

“This is insane.

“You wouldn’t believe it, but this morning I woke up with a weird feeling that I was going to win Powerball.

“I made sure I kept my phone on charge and that I would be ready to answer your phone call.

“I can’t believe this is happening!

“My mind is all over the place. I can’t stop shaking.

“I feel so free!

“I am going to go and wake up my family. I can’t wait to tell them!”

When asked how she planned to enjoy her prize, the elated woman said it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“It’s been such a tough time. This is a huge relief,” she admitted.

“I am going to get a house and I want to share it with my family.

“I will also help some of my friends that have done so much for me.

“I am going to retire too and then I will spend my time travelling around Australia, instead of working!

“What can’t I do?”

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her winning PowerHit entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

The Queensland winner is the tenth Powerball winner so far this year. Collectively, these ten Aussies have pocketed more than $400 million in prize money.

In addition to the division one winner, a total of 1.46 million prizes worth more than $25.28 million were won in divisions two to nine.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1274 on Thursday 15 October 2020 were 27, 7, 31, 32, 2, 9 and 15. The all-important Powerball number was 7.

Across Australia, there was only one division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1274 – the entry from Queensland.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 313 so far this year, including 83 won by Golden Casket customers.

In 2019, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $541.87 million in prize money.

During this time, the biggest individual Powerball prize was $107,575,649.08, which was won by a Sydney healthcare worker on 17 January 2019. Her windfall set a new record for Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner.  In 2019, Powerball offered a $150 million jackpot, the largest ever offered by an Australian lottery game, which was shared by three division one winners.

Of the 14 Powerball division one winning entries in 2019, five landed in New South Wales, four in Queensland, three in Victoria and two in South Australia.
