Lending a helping hand to his children, a new wardrobe for the wife, and a holiday to Europe are just a few of the things a Cairns man plans to do with his $250,000 Instant Scratch-Its prize.

The Far North Queensland man’s winning $10 Star Fortune ticket was purchased at Ulverstone Lucky Lotto, 28 Reiby Street, Ulverstone.

Confirming his exciting prize with an official from the Lott today, Cairns resident said he was on holidays in Tasmania when he picked up the winning ticket.

“It’s very exciting! I’d love to do it again sometime!” he exclaimed.

“We were in Tasmania on holidays, just before everything went into lockdown.

“We bought a few scratchies there and went home and completely forgot about them.

“When we finally discovered the tickets in our backpack and scratched them, we got quite a surprise! We couldn’t believe it; we still can’t. I don’t think it will sink in until we see the money in our bank account.

“It was very good!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his instant windfall, the loving dad had plenty of ideas.

“My wife already has already spent most of it,” he laughed.

“New wardrobe, new shoes, she said the bills can wait!

“We will be able to help the children out and go on a holiday to Europe when we can!

“We will be celebrating as soon as our prize hits the bank account, something quiet at home, of course.”

Ulverstone Lucky Lotto owner Peter Rees said it was the biggest winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket the outlet had sold.

“That’s fantastic news!” he exclaimed.

“I can’t wait to tell our customers that we’ve sold this incredible prize.

“It’s great to know that people visit us here and go home with such an amazing win.

“Congratulations to them! We hope they visit us again one day when the time is right.”

In 2019, there were 199 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.7 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
