A couple from Carlingford are planning to treat themselves to a shopping spree after a joke about winning a top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket turned out to be true.
The Sydney pair scored $10,000 on a $1 Cupcake Cash Instant Scratch-Its ticket they purchased at Carlingford Court Newsagency, Shop 119, 801-809 Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford.
Confirming their windfall with an official from the Lott today, the man explained how the win came to be.
“We bought two scratchies yesterday,” he said.
“I scratched the first one and I said to my wife that I had won the top prize but I was kidding! I had won nothing.
“And then she scratched the second one and told me she’d won the top prize.
“Of course I didn’t believe her, but when she showed me the ticket it was actually there!
“We both thought ‘oh my god’!
“That’s when it became real. It was very exciting!”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their instant prize, the couple said after a tough few months it was time to treat themselves.
“We’re both going to go on a little shopping spree and spoil ourselves,” he said.
“And then we will put the rest towards some bills.
“It’s unreal!”
In 2019, there were 199 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.7 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
