A Collinsvale couple can’t wait to embrace the season of giving and share their $100,000 Instant Scratch-Its top prize with their loved ones.
The top prize winning $5 Merry Christmas ticket was purchased at Derwent Park Newsagency, 255 Main Road, Derwent Park.
Speaking with an official from The Lott this morning, the thrilled couple admitted they were still trying to comprehend the news of their win.
“I am very, very, very good!” the winning woman laughed.
“I actually bought this ticket myself. I liked how the ticket was clear. I have never seen one like that before, so I decided to give it a go.
“I didn’t take it seriously at first when I saw I’d won. I couldn’t believe it!
“I thought ‘oh my gosh!’. It actually still doesn’t feel real now, even though I know it is.
“I’ve cried a lot since I scratched it the other day. There’s been lots and lots of tears – happy tears though.
“It’s amazing!”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their prize, the overwhelmed winners admitted Christmas was the time for sharing.
“We are going to give some to our kids! We are so excited to be able to do that for them,” she said.
“Especially because it’s Christmas time! It’s the season of giving.
“We will do something nice for ourselves too. We’d like to go on a holiday in the new year.”
Derwent Park Newsagency owner Glenn Commane said he was over-the-moon one of his customers had scored a top prize right in time for Christmas.
“It’s great news,” he said.
“It’s absolutely marvellous, especially at this time of the year.
“We wish our winners all the very best!
“We’ve sold a few major prizes in the past and we’re always so happy to add another to our list! We can’t wait to sell more soon.”
Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, there were 151 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.8 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 29.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $235.25 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
