Australia could welcome its biggest individual lottery winner tomorrow night if just one person takes home Powerball’s entire $120 million jackpot.

This week’s $120 million Powerball draw has the second-biggest prize ever offered by an Australian lottery game. It’s only surpassed by a $150 million Powerball draw held in September 2019, where three individuals shared the jackpot.

With $120 million up for grabs, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said up to half of Australian adults were expected to have an entry into tomorrow night’s Powerball draw.

“Tomorrow is the day we find out if someone becomes Australia’s newest Powerball multi-millionaire,” he said.

“While we’ve never had a $120 million Powerball draw before, if previous big jackpots are anything to go by, we can expect it to get busier and busier at lottery outlets and online leading up to tomorrow night’s draw.

“For last week’s Powerball draw, the peak of sales was at 4.47pm when Aussies grabbed more than 6,000 entries in a single minute. Given the draw closes at 7.30pm AEST, it seems many were leaving it to the last minute.

“We encourage customers to not only get in early to purchase their entries but also register their entries to a player card or online account so we can contact them directly after the draw with some incredible news!

“If we have a division one winner tomorrow, we’ll be wanting to let them know straight after the draw. They may not need to head into work on Friday, or ever again!”

In 2019, a Sydney nurse became Australia’s current biggest individual lottery winner when she won a phenomenal $107,575,649.08.

Since then, the winning woman and her family have bought a new home to be enjoyed for generations to come, and made some donations to causes close to her heart.  She continues to work, but has revealed she’s happy to never pick up the iron again. More on what she did with her prize is available here.

“In 2019, we broke the staggering news to Australia’s biggest lottery winner minutes after the winning numbers were drawn. Will we be doing the same tomorrow night?” Mr Hart said.

Tickets into Powerball draw 1345 on Thursday 24 February 2022 can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.

In 2021, 14 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed more than $550.1 million in prize money.

During this time, Powerball offered an $80 million jackpot three times – the biggest prize offered by any Australian lottery game during the year.

Of the 14 Powerball division one winning entries in 2021, seven landed in New South Wales, four in Queensland, two in Victoria and one in Western Australia.
