One Aussie could immediately become the nation’s biggest lottery winner of 2022 to date if they pocket the entire $80 million jackpot in this Thursday’s Powerball draw.

Up to one-in-four Aussie adults are expected to vie for this week’s $80 million prize.

It’s the second biggest Australian lottery jackpot offered so far this year, and the second time in 2022 Powerball has had an $80 million prize up for grabs.

Leading up to the last $80 million Powerball draw in February this year, the peak of sales was at 4:47pm on the day of the draw when more than 6,000 entries were sold in-store and online in a single minute.

Should one person take home Powerball’s mammoth prize, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said they would share the title of Australia’s third-biggest lottery winner ever.

“We know Aussies love big Powerball jackpots and we expect this week’s draw to be no exception,” he said.

“As we inch closer to the draw on Thursday night, I know many Aussies will be dreaming about what they’d do with an extra $80 million in their bank accounts.

“There have been six Powerball division one winning entries so far in 2022 that have collected more than $226.6 million. Will Thursday night reveal our seventh?

“I’ll be standing by after Thursday night’s draw waiting to reach out to any registered division one winners, so make sure you register your entries to a player card or online account for the chance to receive that life-changing phone call.”

Powerball’s ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ numbers

  • To win Powerball’s division one prize, you need to have all seven winning numbers (drawn from the main barrel of 35 numbers) plus the Powerball (drawn from the Powerball barrel of 20 numbers) in a single game panel.
  • From the main barrel, the most frequently drawn winning numbers are 17, 7, 2, 9 and 25. The least frequently drawn winning numbers are 31, 6, 33, 15 and 34.
  • For the separate Powerball barrel, the most frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 19 and 3, while the least frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 18 and 16.

Powerball’s 2022 winning states

  • There has been six Powerball division one winning entries so far in 2022 that have collected more than $226.6 million.
  • Of this year’s six Powerball division one winning entries, half have been in New South Wales, with one each in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.

QuickPick or marked entries?

  • Two-thirds of 2022’s Powerball division one winning entries to date were QuickPick entries, where the lottery terminal randomly generated the numbers on the ticket. The remaining entries featured numbers selected by the winner.

The power of the PowerHit entry

  • A third of this year’s Powerball division one wins were scored by a PowerHit entry; a ticket type unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number needed to win division one.

Entries into the $80 million Powerball draw, draw 1357, close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday 19 May 2022.
