Have you ever wondered if your name’s a winner or whether you have a lucky star sign? If your initial starts with the letter J and you’re a Capricornian, keep reading!

The Lott has delved into the data and uncovered the first name initials, age groups, and star signs of those who secured the most division one wins across all lottery games in 2024.

In the 12 months ending 31 December 2024, there were 506 division one winning entries across Australia that delivered more than $1.68 billion in division one prize money.

However, it was players with the first initial of J who scored the most division one wins across all lottery games with 10.5% (Table 1).

The Andrews, Amandas and Aarons of Australia weren’t far behind, with the initial of A taking home 10% of division one wins.

It was less successful year for the Quentins, Zanes and Yvonnes of the world. No one with a name starting with the letters Q, U, Y or Z won a division one lottery prize last year. There was also only one division one winner each with an initial starting with O and X.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said only time would tell if 2025’s division one winners matched last year’s profile.

“While we love delving into winners’ data and discovering the trends, regardless of your name or birth date, if you have a ticket in your hands before a draw’s close, you’re in with the chance to win,” he said.

“It seems the stars aligned perfectly for last year's winners, but who knows what fate has in store for Aussie players this year.

“One of the next chances to win big is on Tuesday, with Oz Lotto offering $50 million – the fourth biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game so far this year.”

The official home of Australia’s lotteries, The Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners, winning every day.

In 2024, more than 195.3 million winners took home more than $4.84 billion in prize money from their favourite games at The Lott, including Saturday Lotto, Weekday Windfall, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno (SA), Super 66, Lotto Strike and Instant Scratch-Its.

Last financial year, Australia’s official lotteries contributed more than $1.8 billion via state lottery taxes and donations to help community initiatives, such as hospitals, health research, disaster relief and education.
