A Gold Coast retiree has revealed he’s got a new favourite word, thanking the word ‘tile’ for his $100,000 Instant Scratch-Its win.

The top prize winning $5 Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at NewsXpress Nerang Newsagency, Shop 15, Nerang Fair Shopping Centre, Nerang.

Confirming his exciting prize with a Golden Casket official this morning, the man explained how he slowly discovered he’d scored the top prize.

“Thank you. It’s lovely!” he exclaimed.

“It was like a comedy of errors. I originally thought I’d scratched nine words and I was so happy with a prize of $10,000.

“Then I counted the words and realised there was another letter I hadn’t scratched yet.

“It was the letter ‘L’ and I can tell you now ‘tile’ is officially my new favourite word!

“Then I realised I’d won the top prize of $100,000.

“It was unbelievable!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his instant windfall, the Gold Coast resident had plenty of ideas.

“I’m retired so I’ll certainly be using this to enjoy myself!” he said.

“It means I won’t have to worry about money and I can do some travelling.

“There’s also a few renovations around the home that need to be done!”

NewsXpress Nerang Newsagency owner Cathryn Smith said she was thrilled for her customer.

“We were so excited when he came back into the store with that winning ticket,” she said.

“He was absolutely over the moon!

“We’ve sold plenty of winning tickets over the years and the excitement never fades.

“Congratulations to him! What a fantastic time of the year to win big.”

Between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019, there were 118 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $12.14 million in top prizes.

During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.6 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $214.2 million in top prizes.
