Recognising the impact the drought is having on Queensland’s rural communities, Golden Casket is donating $500,000 to the Queensland Government’s Queensland Drought Appeal.

The donation from Golden Casket, part of the Lott – Australia’s official lotteries, has been funded from unclaimed prize money.

Golden Casket Managing Director Sue van der Merwe said the drought conditions currently affecting farmers was an issue that had galvanised the Australian community and Golden Casket was proud to lend its support.

“As part of our long standing commitment to the community in which we operate, and as an organisation with a strong Queensland heritage, it is important to us to contribute to the drought relief efforts,” she said.

“Like many, we share the concerns for the welfare of our hard-working farmers and their local communities at this difficult time.

“We hope this donation goes some way to delivering the assistance our rural families need.

“I would also like to applaud the Queensland Country Women’s Association for its vital work in distributing the donations from the Queensland Drought Appeal to Queensland families. With its strong state-wide network and remarkable track record of supporting communities, the QCWA is ideally placed to ensure the funds reach those who need it most.”

The donation follows a previous separate donation of $500,000 by Golden Casket’s parent company, Tabcorp, to help drought-affected farmers across Queensland and New South Wales.
