A Chelsea man is already looking forward to next year’s birthday after this year’s Instant Scratch-Its gift from grandma delivered a $100,000 windfall.
The winning $5 Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Chelsea Newsagency, 403 Nepean Highway, Chelsea.
Speaking to an official from The Lott while claiming his prize, the winning grandson revealed his winning ticket was part of a long-running family tradition.
“This was a gift from my grandma for my birthday. Every year, she gives me $20 or $30 worth of Instant Scratch-Its tickets,” he explained.
“Sometimes I win small amounts, but this time I finally hit the big one.
“Funnily enough, the ticket sat on the kitchen bench for a month. I just hadn’t got around to scratching it. Little did we know there was a whole chunk of money sitting on the bench for a month!
“Luckily, we did eventually scratch it.
“We looked at it and thought, ‘that can’t be right’. But it was! We called grandma that night to let her know.
“It’s really exciting. It couldn’t have come at a better time.
“We’re hoping to buy our first house for our young family, and we might even go to Fiji for a holiday!”
