A drought-affected Goondiwindi farmer has declared “you can’t take the bush out of the boy” and plans to spend even more time working on his farm after discovering he won division one in last night’s Set for Life draw.

The New South Wales player scored the division one prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years in Set for Life draw 1687, drawn Thursday 19 March 2020.

This morning an official from the Lott called the farmer just moments after he’d made the mouth-watering discovery himself.

“You little ripper! It’s a hell of a relief!” he exclaimed.

“I went to check my ticket I bought in last night’s Powerball draw and then I thought, ‘hold up, I’ve won something in Set for Life’.

“I just couldn’t believe it! I’ve been walking around numb ever since, waiting for your call.

“I went to wake up my wife and tell her, and she just sat there completely shocked. She just said ‘oh, that’s good for you’. I could barely get a word out of her! She can’t believe it.

“This is amazing! I didn’t think this would happen to me.”

When asked how he planned to enjoy being Set for Life, the stoked father said it would go a long way to helping him and his family.

“We live on a farm, and we were heavily affected by the drought, so this will help us a lot,” he explained.

“I am keen to do some more work on the farm! You can’t take the bush out of the boy, so I won’t be giving up the farm life anytime soon. I love it!

“We are going to do some renovations around the house, and a lot will go towards my children’s education. I’m sure they’ll be wanting some more motorbikes and things like that too.

“I will help out our family as well and then we want to do more travelling all over the world – cruises, overseas trips, holidays in Australia, the lot!

“Celebrations today will be low-key, but we will find something fun.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his winning 3-Set QuickPick entry online at thelott.com – Australia’s official lotteries.

Across the country, the New South Wales winner held the only entry that won division one in Set for Life draw 1687 on Thursday 19 March 2020.

The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 1687 were 28, 15, 13, 23, 29, 34, 22 and 17, with the bonus numbers 27 and 7.

The New South Wales man is the 61st Set for Life division one winner nationally since the game began and the seventh Set for Life division one winner for the year.

Between 1 January and 31 December 2019, there were 11 Set for Life division one winners across Australia who will receive $52.8 million during the next 20 years.
