A McLaren Vale man who’d been dreaming of quitting his job to spend more time camping and fishing is ready to make that dream a reality after winning $4.8 million in Set for Life.
The winner held the only division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2314, drawn Monday 6 December 2021. He takes home the division one prize of $4.8 million, paid in instalments of $20,000 a month for 20 years.
This is the second Set for Life division one wins to land in South Australia during the past two days.
This morning, an official from The Lott called the Adelaide winner, who was completely oblivious his life had changed.
“F***ing hell! I had no idea! What the hell?!” he laughed.
“You’ve sent a cold shiver down my spine. I feel very weird right now.
“This is f***ing amazing. I’m astounded. I can’t believe this.
“I’d seen that another person from Adelaide had won Set for Life over the weekend. I was reading their story this morning, and I thought ‘that lucky bastard!’. Turns out I’m a lucky bastard too!
“I think I need to go lay down and comprehend what’s happened. This is incredible.
“Sadly, I have a few appointments and work meetings to go to today, so I can’t celebrate. But once the money goes into my account, I will do something really special.
“I’m going to retire from work immediately. I haven’t enjoyed my job for the last year, it’s been a real struggle to go to work, so I’d been thinking of changing jobs.
“But now I don’t have to work at all. It’s the best feeling! I can finish up and just relax and enjoy life instead. It’ll change everything for me. Woo-hoo!
“I will pay off my mortgage as well. Then I’d love to spend more time camping and fishing.
“I’ll definitely upgrade my camping and fishing gear too.
“I’m a pretty simple guy, but I am certainly going to enjoy this.”
The winner’s life-changing 25-game QuickPick entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
The winning numbers in Set for Life draw 2314 on Monday 6 December 2021 were 6, 9, 8, 20, 41, 15 and 36, while the supplementary numbers were 40 and 18.
Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Set for Life draw 2314 – the one from South Australia.
This marks the 90th Set for Life division one winner nationally since the game began and the 11th Set for Life division one winner so far this financial year.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 200 so far this financial year, including 15 won by SA Lotteries customers.
In the 12 months to 30 June 2021, there were 16 Set for Life division one winners across Australia who will receive $76.8 million during the next 20 years.
By the end of FY21, $53.8 million in monthly payments of $20,000 had been paid to the 79 Set for Life division one winners across Australia since 2015.
