A Mudgee man is celebrating his $1 million Wednesday Lotto windfall by heading out to his backyard and building himself a new shed.

The regional New South Wales player held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3857, drawn Wednesday 3 April 2019, each taking home the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.

Confirming his win with a NSW Lotteries official this afternoon, the winner revealed how he discovered his million-dollar fortune.

“I hadn’t realised I’d won until this morning when I went into the newsagency to grab my lottery tickets,” he explained.

“When I was there I picked up the results from Wednesday night and took them home and checked my ticket.

“I feel very excited. It was a great surprise!

“This has been a long time coming! Thank you very much!”

The retiree thanked special birthdays in his family for the life-changing win.

“I’ve been playing for a very long time, since lottery began!” he laughed.

“For about 30 years I’ve been playing the same numbers. They’re all birthdays of my family and now they have paid off.

“We don’t know how we will spend it yet. We need to take some time to work it out.

“But owning our own home would certainly be nice!”

When asked how he’d celebrate, the hard-working retiring said he wouldn’t be talking it easy.

“I’m building a shed at the moment so I’ll head out the back to do that. You’ve still got to do your work!” he laughed.

The winning marked System 7 entry was purchased at Mudgee Newsagency, 77 Market Street, Mudgee.

Mudgee Newsagency employee Courtney Hutchison said she couldn’t be more excited for her winner.

“I was so thrilled when I discovered the news we’d sold a division one winning entry!” she exclaimed.

“There’s been division one wins happening all around us so it’s great to be part of the winners circle.

“We’ve always been a lucky store! In 2017 we were one of the New South Wales hotspots for having sold the most division one winning entries so it’s great to see this winning streak continue.

“We are so happy for our winner and wish them the very best! We hope they have big plans for their win, we have no doubt that they really deserve it.”
