A Wareemba man has got the surprise of his life after realising he’d unknowingly been carrying around a winning Lucky Lotteries ticket worth $200,000 for over two weeks.
The Inner West Sydney resident held the 1st Prize winning entry in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1784, drawn Wednesday 20 May 2026. He looks forward to a neat $200,000 prize.
As the winning ticket wasn’t registered to The Lott Members Club, lottery officials had no way of contacting him with the winning news and instead had to wait for him to come forward.
When an official from The Lott spoke with the winning man, he relived the thrilling moment he popped into his local newsagency and uncovered the six-figure prize.
“What a wonderful surprise!” he said.
“This is by far the biggest prize I’ve ever won.
“It’s unbelievable!
“It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been playing lotteries for years now.
“It took me so long to discover my win, as I only go and check my tickets every now and then.
“When I went in to check this ticket, the newsagency owners had a feeling it was me who had won. After they checked my ticket, they said, ‘You’ve won! You’ve won! You’ve won the $200,000!’.
“I had no idea what they were talking about.
“I couldn’t believe it.”
The grateful winner confessed the prize couldn’t have come at a better time.
“It’s quite interesting how things happen in life,” he said.
“It has come at a pretty handy time. I’ll put it towards the mortgage and some holidays.”
“It’s going to take a while to sink in.”
His winning ticket was purchased at Wareemba Newsagency, Shop 1, 308 Great North Road, Wareemba.
The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $1.96 million for draw 1785, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $3.2 million for draw 11078.
Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot are raffle-style games, which means there is a set number of tickets in each draw. As each ticket number is unique there is no sharing of prizes.
Each game has two draws – one that determines the winning numbers and one that determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the Jackpot Prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the Jackpot Prize will climb for the next draw.
