2019 has already been an extraordinary year for massive lottery jackpots and it shows no signs of stopping with Powerball soaring to $100 million for next Thursday’s draw.

Next week’s $100 million draw is the second biggest jackpot prize offered in Australian lottery history.

If just one player takes home the entire prize, they’ll write their names into Australia lottery history books as the nation’s second-biggest individual lottery winner.

The $100 million jackpot comes after no players held a division one winning entry in tonight’s $80 million Powerball draw, prompting the jackpot to continue to roll for the seventh consecutive week.

While no entries scored the division one prize in tonight’s Powerball draw, a total 1,912,529 prizes worth more than $33.35 million were won in divisions two to nine.

Among these winners, were 10 division two winners, who each take home a prize of $92,407.70.

While 2019 had already been a record-breaking year for Australian lottery players, the Lott spokesperson Lauren Cooney said she was ready to see more records tumble.

“We kicked off the year by crowning the country’s biggest individual lottery winner, a Sydney mum who scored a $107 million Powerball prize in January,” she said.

“Then just last week we saw a dad from Chatswood claim the title of Australia’s second-biggest individual lottery winner after taking home a Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize of $96.04 million.

“But that record could be short-lived if just one player takes home the entire $100 million Powerball jackpot next week. We will just have to wait and see!”

With $100 million up for grabs, Miss Cooney said up to one-in-three Australian adults were expected to have an entry into next week’s Powerball draw.

“For this week’s $80 million draw, we saw brisk trade at our lottery outlets around the country and online. The peak of ticket sales today was at 4.52pm when 3,646 tickets were sold instore and online in 60 seconds,” she said.

“During the coming week, people across the country will find themselves daydreaming about what they’d do with $100 million in their bank account, and for one or multiple players these dreams could become a reality.

“It’s going to be a busy week in lottery outlets across the nation and we expect queues out the door – particularly on the day of the draw – as people vie for their chance to win.

“We encourage customers to get in early to purchase their entries and to register those entries so we can contact them directly after the draw with the life-changing news!”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, 10 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed $398,575,649.10 in prize money.  This included one Sydney woman who in January scored a Powerball payday of more than $107 million – Australia’s biggest ever individual lottery prize.

The numbers drawn tonight in Powerball draw 1216 on Thursday 5 September 2019 were 16, 4, 14, 2, 29, 19 and 27.  The all-important Powerball number was 13.

The $100 million Powerball draw 1217 will take place on Thursday 12 September 2019.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.

The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 253 so far this calendar year.

The sign of Australia’s Official Lotteries, the Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners, winning every day.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, more than 108 million winners took home more than $3.28 billion in prize money from their favourite games at the Lott, including Saturday Lotto, Monday and Wednesday Lotto, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno, Super 66, Lotto Strike and Instant Scratch-Its.
