Australian lottery history has been made tonight with the Powerball jackpot now soaring to $100 million for next Thursday’s draw – a new record for the game.

It comes after tonight’s Powerball winning numbers did not match those on any entries from players across the nation, prompting the game to jackpot for the eighth week in a row.

While no entries scored the division one prize in tonight’s $80 million Powerball draw, more than 2.02 million prizes in divisions two to nine were won across Australia worth more than $35.2 million.

Amongst these winners, there were nine division two winners, who each take home a prize of $108,500.65.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said not only did next Thursday’s Powerball draw match the Australian lottery record for the biggest advertised jackpot prize, it also had the potential to smash another record.

“It would be mind-blowing, but if one single entry takes home the entire $100 million jackpot next week it would be the largest Australian lottery jackpot ever won by a single entry,” he explained.

“The current record is held by a couple of Hervey Bay grandparents who won $70 million in January 2016. Before their life-changing windfall the winners confessed to never having won anything more than a chook raffle!

“While we hope that next week is the week these lottery records are broken, its hard to know just how high the jackpot will go if the Powerball winning numbers don’t come up for Australian lottery players.

“What we do know is that it will be a busy week in lottery outlets across the nation and we expect queues out the door with up to one-in-three Australian adults expected to have an entry into next week’s draw.

“We encourage customers to get in early to purchase their entries and to register those entries so we can contact them directly after the draw with the life changing news!”

The numbers drawn tonight in Powerball draw 1160 on Thursday 9 August 2018 were 5, 18, 10, 13, 34, 12 and 4.  The all important Powerball number was 19.

The $100 million Powerball draw 1161 will take place on Thursday 16 August 2018.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 244 so far this calendar year.
