Australian lottery history could be made tonight if one player takes home the entire $80 million Powerball jackpot on offer for this evening’s draw.

Currently the record for Australia’s biggest lottery prize won by a single entry is $70 million, set in 2016 when a Hervey Bay couple won Powerball.

If there is one Powerball division one winner tonight, the old record will be easily smashed by a cool $10 million.

Following eight weeks of jackpotting, tonight’s Powerball’s division one prize pool has risen to a mind-blowing $80 million for the first time in nearly a decade. It is the equal largest jackpot prize in Powerball’s 22-year history.

Australia has already seen two new multi-millionaires crowned this week, with an entry from both New South Wales and Victoria sharing Tuesday’s $70 million Oz Lotto prize.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said he would be on standby to call any registered division one winners immediately after tonight’s historic Powerball draw.

“With a collective $150 million up for grabs across Oz Lotto and Powerball, this week has already set new Australian lottery records. But the week isn’t over yet and records could continue to be shattered if we have one division one winner tonight,” he said.

“The standing record for the largest Powerball jackpot in Australia was set in in 2009 when Powerball last soared to $80 million.

“There’s been a flurry of activity in lottery outlets across the country and online as Aussie adults have lined up for the chance to win tens of millions of dollars.

“Previous Powerball division one winners have told us that when they’ve seen their multi-million dollar prize land in their bank account, they’ve pursued long-held dreams – from never working again, travelling the world and kick-starting passion-projects.

“With a Powerball jackpot, it’s fair to say the world is your oyster and you can really play by your own rules from here on in.”

So far this year, nine entries have taken home $121 million in Powerball division one prize money.

The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 244 so far this calendar year.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
