Australian lottery history was rewritten tonight with the Powerball jackpot soaring to $110 million for next Thursday’s draw – the highest division one prize ever offered by a national lottery game.

The previous record for the highest advertised Australian lottery jackpot was $100 million, which has only been offered three times before – once by Oz Lotto in 2012, and by Powerball in August last year and January this year.

The astronomical jackpot comes after no players held a division one winning entry in tonight’s Powerball draw, prompting the game to jackpot for the eighth consecutive week.

While no entries scored the division one prize in tonight’s Powerball draw, a total 1,649,694 prizes worth more than $29.79 million were won in divisions two to nine.

Among these winners, there were 9 division two winners, who each take home a prize of $91,728.90.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said not only did next Thursday’s Powerball draw set a new record for the nation’s biggest advertised jackpot prize, it also had the potential to smash another record.

“It would be mind-blowing, but if one single winner takes home the entire $110 million jackpot next week it would be the biggest Australian lottery prize ever won by a single entry,” he explained.

“The current record for the biggest individual lottery win is held by a Sydney woman, who won more than $107 million in Powerball in January this year.

“2019 has already been a watershed year for Australian lotteries as we’ve seen a series of high jackpots offered and won. We can only wait and see how the rest of the year pans out for lottery players, starting with next Thursday’s draw.”

With $110 million up for grabs, Mr Hart said up to one-in-three Australian adults were expected to have an entry into next week’s Powerball draw.

“During the coming week, it’s fair to say everyone will be dreaming about what they might do with a massive Powerball prize,” he said.

“With a record jackpot on the table, it’s going to be a busy week in lottery outlets across the nation and we expect queues out the door – particularly on the day of the draw – as people vie for the chance to win.

“We encourage customers to get in early to purchase their entries and to register those entries so we can contact them directly after the draw with the life-changing news!”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, 10 Powerball division one winners across Australia pocketed $398,575,649.10 in prize money.  This included one Sydney woman who in January scored a Powerball payday of more than $107 million – Australia’s biggest ever individual lottery prize.

The numbers drawn tonight in Powerball draw 1208 on Thursday 11 July 2019 were 21, 27, 8, 6, 28, 34 and 7.  The all-important Powerball number was 16.

The $110 million Powerball draw 1209 will take place on Thursday 18 July 2019.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.

The Lott’s division one winning tally across all Australian lottery games has now reached 180 so far this calendar year.

The sign of Australia’s Official Lotteries, the Lott operates and markets Australia’s leading lottery games customers know and love creating everyday winners, winning every day.

In the 12 months to 30 June 2018, 74 million winners took home a total of $2.7 billion in prize money from their favourite games which include Saturday Lotto, Monday and Wednesday Lotto, Powerball, Oz Lotto, Set for Life, Lucky Lotteries, Keno and Instant Scratch-Its.
