A young Preston man in his 20s has come forward as the second division one winner in last night’s $100 million Powerball draw, while a Rockhampton couple has already started celebrating their share of the win.

There were two division one winning entries nationally in Powerball draw 1489, drawn Thursday 28 November 2024. Each division one winning entry pocketed $50 million.

An official from The Lott surprised the winning Rockhampton couple with the life-changing news immediately after the draw last night. The Victorian winner held an unregistered ticket but contacted The Lott this morning.

In addition to the two division one winning entries, there were 3,080,963 prizes worth more than $62.5 million in divisions two to nine. This included 11 division two winners who each took home $158,200.15.

Young Preston man’s $50 million Powerball win brings a future full of possibilities

A young Preston man in his 20s has spent the night tossing and turning after discovering his very first Powerball ticket had delivered him a phenomenal $50 million win in last night’s draw.

The Greater Melbourne resident held one of the two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1489, drawn Thursday 28 November and takes home $50 million.

The winning entry was not registered to The Lott Members Club, which meant officials from The Lott had no way of contacting the ticketholder and had to wait for them to check their ticket and come forward to claim their prize.

The newly crowned multi-millionaire, who now has the world at his feet, shared he checked his ticket straight after the draw last night and struggled to wrap his head around his eight-figure prize.

“It feels unreal! It’s unbelievable,” he cheered.

“I’m speechless right now. I can’t wrap my head around it.

“I’m hoping to have a good sleep tonight seeing as I barely got any last night after checking my ticket.

“It was impossible to sleep once I realised that I’d won $50 million!

“Funnily enough, this was my first time playing Powerball. I’ve played a few other lottery games in the past but never Powerball.

“When I saw the jackpot had reached $100 million, I thought I may as well buy a ticket.

“I woke up this morning feeling like nothing is going to hold me back anymore. It really feels like I could do whatever I want, like the world is my oyster.”

When asked how he might enjoy $50 million, the young man explained that he would continue to show up to work but would help his parents retire immediately.

“I love what I do at work, so I will absolutely keep working,” he shared.

“I want to make sure I keep my feet on the ground.

“I plan to share a lot of the prize with my parents and give back to them however I can. I’d love to retire them straight away.”

His winning entry was purchased at Northland Lotto & News, Shop C012, Northland Shopping Centre, 2-50 Murray Road, Preston.

Northland Lotto & News owner Elham Nourazari shared she was thrilled to sell her very first division one winning entry since taking over ownership of the outlet.

“Oh my gosh. That’s great news. I’m in shock!” she laughed.

“I can’t believe we’ve sold a ticket worth $50 million!

“I’m a new owner of Northland Lotto & News so this will be our first division one win since I've taken over ownership.

“I am so excited. We’ll be sure to decorate the store with plenty of balloons to celebrate and I’ll be letting all our customers know.

Congratulations to our winner and thank you to all our customers for the ongoing support.”

A bright future awaits Rockhampton grandparents with $50 million Powerball prize

A Rockhampton couple braced themselves for another solar panel sales pitch last night, only to discover the call was from lottery officials lighting up their lives with a $50 million Powerball prize.

The unsuspecting newly-minted multi-millionaires answered the life-changing phone from The Lott immediately after last night’s draw.

“You’re joking?!” the winning grandmother laughed.

“I’m in disbelief. I can’t believe it. This doesn’t happen to us.

“I expected you to ask if we have solar panels, not to tell us we’ve just won $50 million!

“We’re multi-millionaires. I can’t believe I'm saying that. It’s going to take a while to wrap my head around it.

“I’ve been playing for a long time now – since the game first started. I had always used the same numbers, but this ticket was just a QuickPick.

“I’m in a total state of shock.

“We’ve been pretty happy in life, but this is the icing on the cake.”

With $50 million about to brighten their bank account just in time for the festive season, the dynamic duo look forward to sharing the multi-million-dollar prize with family.

“It helps the family that’s for sure. ‘Family first’ is what we always say,” she added.

“We’ll have lots more time together now too. I don’t think they’re going to believe us when we tell them.

“There’s going to be a few more prezzies under the tree on Christmas day.”

Their 12-game QuickPick winning entry was purchased from Card & Paper Shop, Shop 066, Stockland, Yaamba Road, North Rockhampton.

Card & Paper Shop owner Janet Dingley shared she was overjoyed to hear that her outlet had sold a division one winning Powerball ticket worth $50 million.

“It feels wonderful to know we’ve played a role in completely changing someone’s life!” she said.

“This is our tenth division one win ever, and it was only two weeks ago that we sold a division one winning entry worth $2 million! It’s unreal to see our outlet on a bit of a winning streak.

“We’re so grateful for our regular and loyal customers who continue to support us. We hope one of you was rewarded with a life-changing win this time around.

“We’ll be filling the store from floor to ceiling with balloons, and signage, while also spreading the wonderful news with our community far and wide.

Congratulations to our winner! We’re so excited for you and we wish you all the very best.”

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1489 on Thursday 28 November 2024 were 22, 10, 4, 31, 1, 26 and 9. The all-important Powerball number was 14.

In FY24, 19 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $758 million in prize money.
