An Elizabeth woman has had a sleepless night after discovering the Keno Spot 9 ticket that had been languishing in her handbag was worth $150,000.

The woman scored a $150,000 Keno Spot 9 prize in draw 2523945, drawn Sunday 4 August 2019.

Speaking to a SA Lotteries official this morning to claim her prize, the happy woman confessed she hadn’t had a wink of sleep since discovering the news.

“I had the ticket in my handbag and stopped at a service station to fill up the car and thought I’d check my ticket while I was there,” she explained.

“When I scanned the ticket, it came up that it couldn’t be paid. Neither me nor the guy behind the counter knew what that meant so I grabbed the ticket back and thought I’d double check it at home.

“When I got home I checked the ticket number online and I couldn’t believe it.

“I was so excited I couldn’t sleep!”

The regular player recounted how she came to choose the winning numbers.

“A few weeks ago I played these numbers and had a small win,” she said.

“So I thought I’d just keep playing the same ones. Since then I’ve had a lot of small wins.

“They’ve been especially lucky for me with this win! I’ll definitely keep playing them in the future.”

When asked how she plans to enjoy her Keno Spot 9 windfall, the happy woman revealed an overseas holiday was on the horizon.

“There are a couple of bills we want to pay but then we’ll start planning our holiday,” she laughed.

“I want to go to England, but my husband wants to go Egypt.

“To be honest – we’ll probably do both!”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her Keno Spot 9 entry at Springbank Plaza Lotto Kiosk, Shop 16, Springbank Plaza Shopping Centre, 384 Waterloo Corner Road, Burton.

Springbank Plaza Lotto Kiosk owner Christine Hardy said she was thrilled one of her customers walked away with $150,000 prize.

“We are so happy for our customer!” she exclaimed.

“This is the biggest Keno prize we’ve ever sold. A little while ago I sold a Keno 8 Spot prize and this time my husband sold the Keno 9 Spot prize.

“We’ve been telling all of our customers that we’ve sold a winner and my husband loves telling them all he’s the lucky one.

“Now I just need to sell a Keno 10 Spot prize to complete the trifecta and prove I am the lucky one.

“We are completely over the moon and the win has created a buzz around the place.

“Congratulations to our winner!”

In the 12 months to 30 June 2018, there were 26 Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 winners across South Australia who landed more than $5.026 million.  Spot 10 was won twice during this time – a prize of more than $1.474 million won in Mawson Lakes in April 2018, and a prize of more than $1.7 million won in Mansfield Park in October 2018.

Keno is a game whereby 20 numbers are randomly generated from a possible 80. To win a Keno Spot 8 prize, a player must match all eight of the numbers selected on their ticket against the 20 numbers drawn.
