A Wynnum grandfather has had a sweet upgrade from chocolate baskets to scoring a multi-million-dollar payday after winning the entire jackpot in last night’s Powerball draw.
The Brisbane resident held the only division one winning entry nationally in Powerball draw 1523, drawn 24 July 2025 and can look forward to a whopping $31,140,405.47.
When contacted by an official from The Lott this morning, the stunned winner hadn’t yet checked his ticket and was left in complete disbelief.
“Holy sh**! Wow. Unbelievable!” he said.
“Oh, my goodness. Words can’t explain how I’m feeling right now. Dear, dear, dear.
“This does so much for my family. It’ll set up my kids and grandkids.
“Never in a million years did I think I would get this call.
“I’m retired myself. I’ve lived a happy life, and I’ve been lucky enough to tick most things off my bucket list, so this will be used more for helping others.
“I just can’t believe it. I had absolutely no idea. The most I’ve ever won is a chocolate Easter basket!
“These are my numbers I’ve played for years. I chose them a long time ago now. I usually play Saturday Gold Lotto, but sometimes I play Powerball when it has a higher jackpot.
“It’s funny because I also bought a Set for Life ticket and thought, ‘Wow, it’d be nice to get that’, but this is even better!
“You’ve made my day. You’ve made my week. You’ve made my kids’ lifetime!
“Now, I’m going to have a quiet day letting reality set in.”
His winning marked PowerHit entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1523 on Thursday 24 July 2025 were 2, 25, 6, 4, 31, 34 and 19. The all-important Powerball number was 20.
Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Powerball draw 1523 – the one in Queensland.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 242 so far in 2025, including 55 won by Golden Casket customers.
In 2024, 21 Powerball division one winning entries across Australia pocketed more than $773 million in prize money.
During this time, Powerball offered a $200 million jackpot, the biggest in Australian history, and an Adelaide man who won $150 million became the nation’s biggest individual lottery winner.
Of the 21 Powerball division one winning entries in 2024, 11 landed in New South Wales, six in Queensland, two in Victoria and one each in South Australia and Western Australia.
