While a young Melbourne man is already planning what he’s going to do with his $50 million Powerball prize, a mystery southern Sydney shopper has yet to claim their multi-million-dollar windfall.

There were two division one winning entries nationally in Thursday’s $100 million Powerball draw, draw 1161 on Thursday 16 August 2018 – one each from Victoria and New South Wales. Each division one winning entry takes home $50 million.

The two new division one winners join an exclusive club of just 15 Australians who have won a division one prize of $50 million or more in an official Australian lottery draw.

The Lott officials this morning revealed the unregistered Sydney division one winning entry was sold at Broadarrow Newsagency, 66 Broadarrow Road, Narwee.

As the southern Sydney entry was not registered to a Players Club card, officials have no way to contact the ticketholder and break the mind-blowing news.

This means the winner may have yet to discover their new multi-millionaire status and could be walking around with a ticket worth $50 million in their pocket, wallet or handbag.

Anyone who purchased their Powerball entry from Broadarrow Newsagency is urged to check their ticket immediately.

Broadarrow Newsagency owner Mandy Tiaw said she was shocked to discover her outlet sold the division one winning entry.

“I’m very happy to hear that of course!” she said.

“It’s very unexpected. I’ve only had this store for less than two months.

“I hope the winner checks their ticket soon and is united with their prize.”

Thursday’s division one win is the latest in a string of wins for the southern Sydney region. So far this year, the region has enjoyed 14 major lottery prizes worth more than $72.86 million.

In addition to Thursday night’s $50 million Powerball prize, southern Sydney has witnessed:

  • seven Saturday Lotto and Monday & Wednesday Lotto division one prizes worth more than $8.7 million
  • two Set for Life first prize winners, with each receiving $20,000 a month for 20 years
  • four Lucky Lotteries prizes, including a $3.8 million jackpot.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said he encouraged everyone who purchased an entry from Broadarrow Newsagency to check their ticket as they could be one of Australia’s newest multi-millionaires.

“While we haven’t been able to confirm the win with our Sydney winner, we can guarantee that when they discover the news, their life is set to change when their bank accounts balloon by a whopping $50 million,” he said.

“Make sure you check your entry as soon as possible because you may not have to go to work on Monday. Instead, you could start planning how you can play by your own rules and begin your life as a newly-minted multi-millionaire.”

“Players can check their entry at any outlet, online at thelott.com or on the Lott app.

“If you check your ticket and discover you are holding the winning ticket, we recommend you keep it safe and contact 131 868 to start the process of claiming your prize!”

Young Melbourne man stunned by Friday morning’s $50 million Powerball surprise

A young Melbourne man in his 20s has been revealed as the other division one winner from Thursday’s $100 million Powerball draw.

When speaking to officials yesterday to confirm his mammoth prize, the over-the-moon winner confessed he knew he had become a multi-millionaire when he checked his entry Thursday night before bed.

“I’m trying to remain as calm as possible!” he laughed.

“I only bought this entry last night before the draw closed.

“I’m going to do the right thing. This win is life changing!

“I’m going to look after my whole family – invest money in property and shares. It will make a massive difference to a lot of people.”

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry online.

So far in 2018, there have been 13 Powerball division one winning entries worth $274 million across Australia.

Up to one-in-three Australian adults had an entry in Thursday’s record-breaking draw.

Thursday’s draw also saw more than 3.79 million prizes won across divisions two to nine worth more than $66.6 million. Among these winners were 15 division two winners who each take home a prize of $122,896.20.

The numbers drawn Powerball draw 1161 on Thursday 16 August 2018 were 33, 3, 32, 13, 27, 35 and 31. The all-important Powerball number was 3.

Powerball draw 1162 will offer $3 million next Thursday 23 August 2018.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 251 so far this calendar year.

Tickets can be purchased at any licensed lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via the Lott mobile app.
