The search for Tasmania’s mystery $30 million Oz Lotto winner has intensified with lottery officials today revealing the multi-million-dollar winning entry was purchased in Burnie.

The Tasmanian entry was the only division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1539 on 15 August 2023.

It’s believed to be the equal biggest lottery win ever in the Apple Isle. In 2018, a Tasmanian man scored $30 million in Powerball.

As the winning Oz Lotto entry was not registered to a player card, the identity of the ticketholder remains a mystery and they may have yet to discover they’re now $30 million richer.

Officials from The Lott are urging all Tasmanian residents and visitors who purchased an entry into this week’s Oz Lotto draw to check their ticket and make contact to claim their prize.

So far in 2023, Tasmania has seen seven division one wins collectively worth more than $49.6 million. This is also the second Oz Lotto prize to land in Tasmania this year. In February, a 24-member syndicate from Strahan shared a $10 million prize.

The winning entry was purchased at Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office, 201 Mount Street, Burnie.

Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office manager Jeremy Turner said he was thrilled to see another big win land in Tasmania.

“Excellent! How good is that? Thirty million dollars is a pretty big prize!” he exclaimed.

“We last sold a division one winning entry about two years ago – it was a $2 million prize in TattsLotto. Customers have been saying we’re due to sell another big winning ticket… and now we have.

“When they buy a ticket, everyone always asks for a winning ticket and now some lucky person out there has it!

“We hope our winner checks their ticket soon!”

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said while the clock was ticking, the elusive Tasmanian player still had plenty of time to claim their prize.

“In Tasmania, lottery players have 12 months to claim their prize directly from us. After this time, there is a process to claim the prize directly from Tasmania Treasury & Finance.

“Of course, we’d much prefer to see the $30 million prize in this Tasmanian winner’s bank account as soon as possible, which is why we’re urging everyone to check their Oz Lotto tickets today.

“If you discover you’re holding the division one winning entry, hold on tight to that ticket and phone 131 868 as soon as possible so that we can start the prize claim process!”

The Lott reminds players of the importance of registering their tickets to a player card or online account so their prizes are secure and they can be contacted directly with the good news of a big win.
