A Newcastle man has excitedly rung family members this morning to tell them he plans to make sure they’re taken care of after scoring $40 million in last night’s Oz Lotto draw.
The New South Wales player held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1671 on Tuesday 24 February 2026. He pocketed the entire $40 million jackpot.
The stunned winner only discovered he was a multi-millionaire this morning after missing calls from lottery officials last night.
“I’m in absolute shock!” the man exclaimed when speaking to an official from The Lott.
“I only found out about three quarters of an hour ago, and ever since I’ve just been walking around the house in circles. I’m in shock!
“I went to bed early last night and I turn my phone off at night, so I didn’t see you’d called until this morning.
“This is the best phone call. Mate, you’ve no idea how many lives this is going to change.”
When asked how he might enjoy being a multi-millionaire, the happy winner became emotional talking about how he’d support the people who mattered the most to him.
“I’ll be looking after my family,” he declared.
“I have rung everyone this morning and said, ‘your worries are going away – I’m going to look after all of you’.
“They say money doesn’t change your life. That’s rubbish! This just changed at least 10 people’s lives.”
The new multi-millionaire shared he only purchased his winning entry at the last minute.
“I had a win in Lotto Strike a few weeks ago and I used some of that to buy this ticket. It was a spur of the moment thing, and I only bought the ticket yesterday. It was a 50-50 thing that I was going to get it,” he admitted.
“I just had a feeling. My wins usually come in three – the other two wins were much smaller. This has blown me out of the water. It is huge!”
While the still went to work today, the winner admitted his working days may be numbered.
“I might just go out and buy a motorhome and go travelling for a year or so to get my head together and decide what’s next.”
His winning System 9 QuickPick entry was purchased on The Lott website – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.
The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1672 on Tuesday 24 February 2026 were 25, 43, 27, 33, 5, 7 and 2, while the supplementary numbers were 28, 31 and 42.
Across Australia, there was one division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1671 – the entry from New South Wales.
