Aussies keen to start the new financial year as a newly-minted multi-millionaire are eyeing this Thursday’s $60 million Powerball draw.

This week’s Powerball draw, on Thursday 30 June 2022, offers the third biggest jackpot by any Australian lottery game so far this year.

The jackpot has surged to $60 million as there hasn't been any Powerball division one winners during the past four draws.

Up to one-in-six Australian adults are expected to have an entry into the draw.

So far this year, nine Powerball division one winning entries across Australia have collectively taken home more than $311.2 million.

If just one person snared division one in Thursday’s draw, The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said they would be among the year’s biggest lottery winners to date.

“Australia’s biggest lottery winner of 2022 so far is a Coffs Harbour man who wanted to park a new red sports car in the garage of a new house after we confirmed he’d won more than $63.3 million in a February Powerball draw,” he said.

“Interestingly, New South Wales players have enjoyed a stellar start to 2022, scoring five of the year’s nine Powerball division one wins to date.

“We’ve also seen two wins land in Victoria and one each in Queensland and Western Australia. Who knows where we’ll find our next Powerball multi-millionaire!

“One thing’s for sure, if you score Thursday’s $60 million prize, this year’s tax time will be one you’ll never forget!”

Winning entry types

While every entry offered the chance to pocket Thursday’s Powerball prize, Mr Hart said some winning trends were emerging.

“Two-thirds of the 2022 Powerball division one winning entries have been QuickPicks – where the lottery terminal randomly chooses the numbers for you,” he said.

“About a quarter of the year’s Powerball division one winning entries have been PowerHit entries – an entry unique to Powerball that guarantees the all-important Powerball number you need to win division one.”

“Hot” and “Cold” numbers

The most frequently drawn winning numbers from the main barrel are 17, 7, 2 and 9, while the least frequently drawn are 31, 6, 33 and 34.

The most frequently drawn Powerball number is 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball number is 18.

“My best advice for anyone wanting the chance to win Powerball this week is to ensure you have an entry in your hands before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night,” Mr Hart said.

“As this is the biggest offer of any Australian lottery game at the moment, we’re expecting it to be busy in-store and online leading up to Thursday night.

“Make sure you register your entry to a player card or online account so we can call you with the life-changing news straight after the draw should you win division one!”

Tickets can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
