A dedicated Turramurra woman who has selflessly given back to the mental health sector for almost a decade has expressed her sincere gratitude upon winning the $250,000 Play For Purpose First Prize Pack.

The New South Wales resident purchased one Play For Purpose ticket for $10 in support of Project HAND Inc. – an Australian mental health charity.

The First Prize Pack from Play For Purpose Raffle 20, drawn Friday 15 September 2023, includes a BMW iX3 valued at over $132,000, $100,000 in cashable gold bullion and $17,000 in shopping vouchers.

The blue-collar worker’s Friday morning took a delightful turn when an official from Play For Purpose called to reveal the winning news.

“Oh my god. Really?!” the winning woman questioned.

“Thank you so much. I’m so surprised.

“I always thought that no one ever won in raffle draws but today I’ve been proven wrong!

“I’ll have to call my family and let them know. I don’t think they’ll believe me.

“It will be hard to concentrate for the rest of the day while I’m at work!”

With a number of Australian charitable causes and grassroots sporting clubs to support via Play For Purpose, the winning woman revealed why she chose to lend a helping hand by purchasing her raffle ticket in support of Project HAND Inc.

“I was on the Play For Purpose website on Thursday and I was in need of a new mental health charity to support," she shared.

“I have worked in the mental health sector for a really long time and I wanted to pick a charity that related to Mental Health Services.

“Project Hand do some really great work with providing mental health services for the community, so I purchased a ticket to support them.

“It’s really great knowing they’ll also receive a $2,500 boost because my Play For Purpose ticket was drawn first.

“Also, what perfect timing with R U Ok? Day. I actually purchased the ticket on that day!

“I hope Project Hand can continue their amazing work for years to come.”

Project HAND Inc. founder and managing director Fraser Lane said every cent makes a difference towards building supportive and connected communities around Australia.

“Every cent makes a difference for a small charity, and we’re so glad to hear one of our supporters will walk away with a $250,000 Play For Purpose First Prize Pack for their generosity,” he said.

“The funds raised through the Play For Purpose raffle will go towards funding our free mental health care and counselling services as well as purchasing equipment for our Mental Health First Aid training and Hike 4 Happiness programs.

“We would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support. Whether they’re connected to Project HAND or have chosen us to receive the proceeds of their Play For Purpose ticket.

“At Project HAND, we will continue to empower Australians where conversations about mental health and suicide are supportive and stigma free.

“We look forward to hopefully celebrating the next major Play For Purpose prize winner for Project HAND soon!”

The winning woman who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased her entry at playforpurpose.com.au.

Each Play For Purpose ticket gives players the chance to win one of 395 prizes while supporting an Australian charitable cause of their choice.

Other major prize winners in Play For Purpose Raffle 20 were from across Australia, including Aintree, Knoxfield, Karuah and Kalkee who won second, third, fourth and fifth prize packages in support of Childhood Cancer Association, Love Your Sister, Rural Aid and Love Your Sister.

The next Play For Purpose raffle is open at playforpurpose.com.au.
