Two long-time Canberra friends have accidently doubled up on Oz Lotto tickets, a mistake that’s won the former work colleagues a life-changing $2.2 million prize.

The overwhelmed pair held the only division one winning entry nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1366, drawn Tuesday 21 April 2020. They take home the division one prize of $2,289,010.50.

This morning, an official from the Lott reached out to the registered winner to break the incredible news, who happily explained the prize wasn’t all hers.

“Oh my god! Can you please say all that again?” she cried with happiness.

“Hang on, hang on!

“I can’t believe this. Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.

“I’m in it with a friend! We take turns buying Oz Lotto tickets every week.

“It wasn’t even my turn this week, I mistakenly bought the ticket thinking it was my week. I’m so glad I did!

“I cannot wait to tell her, she will fall over! We used to work together and we’ve been buying lottery tickets together for about 20 years.

“Oh god. We’ve waited so long for a win like this!”

The overwhelmed winner explained the pair had a tradition of enjoying their winnings from throughout the year every December.

“For the past 20 years we always save up our winnings throughout the year for a beautiful Christmas lunch and then spoil ourselves with a shopping spree,” she explained.

“But this Christmas is going to be a little different!

“The rest though, I have no idea. You dream of this day happening and now it has, I really have no idea how I will enjoy my prize.

“We will both use it to really enjoy our retirement and I am sure we will be sharing it with our families!

“It’s unbelievable. I will call her right now and tell her!”

The multi-million-dollar winning 6-game QuickPick was purchased at Waramanga Newsagency, Shop 2, Waramanga Shopping Centre, Damala Street & Waramanga Place, Waramanga.

Waramanga Newsagency owner Shova Choudry said it was a happy day at the outlet.

“I was so excited and very happy this morning when we discovered we’d sold this incredible prize!” she said.

“We’ve sold quite a few division one winning entries over the year.

“We’re so happy for the winner! Congratulations to them, I bet they are completely over the moon.”

In 2019, 13 division one winning Oz Lotto entries across Australia collectively won $320 million.  During this time, the biggest Oz Lotto jackpot was $80 million on 25 June 2019, which was won by two division one winning entries that took home $40 million each.

The winning numbers in Oz Lotto draw 1366 on Tuesday 21 April 2020 were 13, 11, 16, 34, 23, 28 and 39. The supplementary numbers were 21 and 8.

Across Australia, there was only one division one winning entry in Oz Lotto draw 1366 – the entry from Canberra.

The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 303 so far this financial year, including 91 won by NSW Lotteries customers.
