A self-confessed Two Wells trickster thought he was receiving a dose of his own medicine when he was told he scored $50,000 in a recent Keno draw, only to discover it wasn’t a prank at all.

The Barossa and Lower North player held a Keno Spot 8 winning entry in draw 2262698 on Sunday 6 September and takes home $50,000.

Sharing his joy with an official from the Lott this morning, the stoked bloke recounted the moment he discovered his win.

“I was just down at the tavern for dinner and drinks, and as I was leaving I decided to put another Keno ticket on,” he explained.

“I play whenever I am down there but only ever check my tickets as I head out for the night.

“I’m pretty good friends with the woman behind the counter, so when she told me she couldn’t pay it because it was over a payable limit, I didn’t believe her.

“I thought she was joking around and pulling my leg.

“It wasn’t until I checked the numbers that the penny dropped.

“It feels rather good to have won! It was a rather nice surprise!”

The self-confessed ‘jokester’ revealed he didn’t stick around to celebrate, instead he headed home to break the good news to his family.

“I went straight home and told the missus!” he laughed.

“She didn’t believe me. I’m a bit of a jokester, and I’m always playing tricks, so it took a while for her to believe me.

“It’s a big surprise to all of us, so I can’t blame her.

“It’s come at the perfect time. On Friday we’d just gone to the bank to get a loan to do some renovations around the house.

“This will pay that straight off, and the renovations will be done just in time for us to relax over summer.

“Once they are done we’ll celebrate the win then!”

The thrilled winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry at Two Wells Tavern, 116 Old Port Wakefield, Two Wells.

The Two Wells winner was one of two Spot 8 winning entries in draw 2662698, with the second entry sold at Pirie Plaza Newsagency also scoring $50,000 in prize money.

Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, there were 28 Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 winners across South Australia who scored more than $4.46 million.  The Spot 10 prize was won twice during this time – a win worth more than $1.66 million was won by a Whyalla player in December 2019, and a prize of more than $1.3 million was won by a Croydon Park man in February 2020.

Keno is a game whereby 20 numbers are randomly generated from a possible 80. To win a Keno Spot 8 prize, a player must match all eight of the numbers selected on their ticket against the 20 numbers drawn.
