Montage of Powerball draws during the past decade available here
During the past decade, Aussies have pocketed more than $4.78 billion in Powerball division one prize money – and that tally could soar once again following this Thursday’s $100 million draw.
According to data crunched by The Lott (see tables below), during the past 10 years (1 November 2014 to 31 October 2024), there have been 176 Powerball division one wins that have delivered more than $4.78 billion in division one prize money.
New South Wales (66), Victoria (43) and Queensland (38) have enjoyed the most Powerball division one wins during the past 10 years. However, South Australia is home to Australia’s biggest individual lottery winner – a man who scored $150 million in May this year.
Remarkably, only two outlets across Australia have sold multiple Powerball division one wins during the past decade:
- Tosh’s Convenience Store, Ayr (two division one wins worth more than $38.3 million)
- Vic Market Lotto, Melbourne (two division one wins worth more than $26 million)
The data also reveals the regions in each state where the most division one wins have landed during the past 10 years:
- In Queensland, Brisbane’s inner suburbs saw six division one wins worth more than $209 million.
- In New South Wales, Western Sydney & Blue Mountains enjoyed 15 division one wins worth more than $367.4 million.
- In Victoria, the regions of Melbourne – South-East, Central Highlands and Goldfields, Inner Melbourne and Melbourne – North each saw five division one wins (worth $153.6 million, $113.6 million, $90.5 million and $90 million, respectively.
- In South Australia, Southern Adelaide welcomed two division one winning entries worth than $15.25 million.
- In Tasmania, the town of Sorell sold the Apple Isle’s biggest Powerball division one prize of $30 million.
- In the Northern Territory, the town of Howard Springs sold the territory’s only Powerball division one prize.
- In Western Australia, the Goldfields-Esperance region sold three division one winning entries totalling more than $119.6 million
The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said the past decade of Powerball division one wins have proven that a multi-million-dollar win can land anywhere across Australia.
“As the excitement builds for this week's $100 million Powerball draw, many Aussies might be wondering where the recent big wins have landed and whether the next big winner could be them,” she said.
“While some towns and regions have witnessed multiple multi-million-dollar Powerball wins during the past 10 years, it’s important to remember that a Powerball division one win can happen anywhere, at any time!
“My best piece of advice for anyone wanting the chance to win this week’s $100 million jackpot is to grab an entry before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday night.
“For additional inspiration, I can also reveal that PowerHit tickets, a unique entry type, delivered a quarter (25.6%) of all division one wins during the past decade. And almost two-thirds (63.6%) of these Powerball winning entries have been QuickPicks, where the lottery terminal randomly selects the numbers.
"We’ll be standing by ready to reach out to any division one winners from this week’s draw so make sure you register your ticket to a player card or online account.”
