While Christmas might be over for another year, the season of giving has continued for a Gold Coast mum who revealed a $100,000 top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket she received as a gift from her dad.
The top prize winning $5 Crosswords ticket was purchased at Mermaid Waters Newsagency, Shop 9, Cnr Markeri Street and Sunshine Boulevard, Mermaid Waters.
“It was a wonderful present from my dad!” the thrilled Queenslander explained.
“My dad bought some Instant Scratch-Its tickets for my mum and I, alongside his daily newspaper. He usually just gets them for my mum!
“I’d scratched the Instant Scratch-Its ticket and thought I’d won something big, but I wasn’t entirely sure.
“I asked mum to check it straight away as she knows more about Instant Scratch-Its tickets than I do.
“She said, ‘you’ve won $100,000!’. I didn’t believe it! I took it straight to the local newsagency for them to confirm the prize.
“This is the biggest prize I’ve ever won. The most I’ve ever won is $1,600!”
With an additional $100,000 heading into her bank account, the winning woman knew exactly how she’d enjoy her prize.
“We’ve been wanting to complete some house renovations for a very long time,” she exclaimed.
“This will come in handy!”
Mermaid Waters Newsagency owner Pak Cheng said it was the first top prize Instant Scratch-Its ticket his outlet had sold.
“This is very exciting!” he said.
“It’s a great start to the new year. We hope this is the first of many more.
“Congratulations to the winner, and we wish her all the best.”
In FY21, there were 176 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $14.17 million in top prizes.
