The numbers have been crunched and Queensland’s 2018 Lottery Hotspots have been revealed, with the Gold Coast suburb of Southport/Labrador (postcode 4215) claiming the crown for the suburb that sold the most division one winning entries.
During the past 12 months, between 1 December 2017 and 30 November 2018, lottery players from the Sunshine State enjoyed 94 division one prizes and pocketed more than $179 million in division one prize money.
This year, the Gold Coast was the Queensland region that enjoyed the most division one wins throughout the entire state. It had 18 division one winning entries totalling more than $74 million, including the nation’s biggest single prize of $60 million.
In the 12 month period a whopping seven millionaires were created on the Gold Coast alone, together taking home a total prize pool of $67,709,532.89.
Queensland had the third highest number of division one wins nationally and the third highest total of division one prizes nationally during the 12-month period, following Victoria and New South Wales.
The biggest division one prize to land in Queensland during the year also set the record for the second biggest individual division one prize in Australian lottery history. This was won by a retired Burleigh Heads man who took home a mind-blowing $60 million Powerball prize in November.
The latest Lottery Hotspots data shows the Queensland postcodes that sold the most division one winning entries during the past 12 months were all based in the Gold Coast region. Topping the list was 4215 for Southport/Labrador selling four division one winning entries totalling $2,984,776.51.
Hot on the heels of Southport/Labrador were three Queensland postcodes that each sold three division one winning entries:
- 4220 for Burleigh Heads/Burleigh Waters, which sold three division one winning entries totalling $62,006,216.95.
- 4218 for Mermaid Waters/Chevron Island, which sold three division one winning entries totalling $2,918,450.15.
- 4221 for Elanora/Palm Beach, which sold three division one winning entries totalling $2,439,158.00.
Remarkably, The Pines News & Gifts at Elanora sold two of the three division one winning entries sold in the Elanora postcode.
Golden Casket spokesperson Lauren Cooney said a whopping 41 millionaires were created across Queensland during the 12 month period - the third highest of any Australian state and territory.
“Lottery players in Queensland had an unforgettable start to the year after a pair of Gold Coast grey nomads took home $10 million in Oz Lotto in January, which extended their trip around Australia indefinitely,” she said.
“The winners were one of many millionaires created across Queensland throughout the year, who have had their lives changed forever!
“From overseas holidays and travels around Australia, to new homes and new cars, each ecstatic winner is now enjoying their win with their nearest and dearest.”
Ms Cooney added winner’s division one dreams were as vast and varied as the locations in which the wins were won.
“It’s hard to describe my feelings. I don’t know. I think this is the happiest moment of my life! Maybe I will pay off the house, help my family and also give some to charity.” – Inala man, $1 million Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto, June 2018.
“We’ve seen division one wins land far and wide across Queensland in both metropolitan and regional areas,” she explained.
“In each case, every winner had their own dream of how they would use their windfall to enrich their lives. But on the Gold Coast, one of the most memorable wins of the year would have to be the Burleigh Heads man who won a crazy $60 million in Powerball just last month, as you can imagine, he was blown away.”
“Is this a joke? You’ve got to be kidding me surely! That’s unbelievable! I’m a bit stunned. I don’t know what to say. I’m staggered. I can’t get my head around it. To be honest, I’ve never thought about what I would do if I won $60 million.” – Burleigh Heads man, $60 million Powerball, November 2018.
“Another memorable win for the year was by a Bracken Ridge man who won $1 million in Monday and Wednesday Gold Lotto and kept the winning ticket under an esky until he could claim it.
“I checked my ticket last night about 10pm. I knew I had some of the numbers as I’ve been using the same sets of numbers for decades – they’re some of my kids’ birthdays. I hid the winning ticket last night. I hid it under the esky! Others thought I should put it under the pillow!” – Bracken Ridge man, $1 million Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto, May 2018.
Ms Cooney said there was still a chance for players to add their names to the list of 2018 division one winners.
“We are on the countdown to the highly anticipated Saturday Gold Lotto $30 Million Megadraw on Saturday 29 December. This is the biggest Saturday Gold Lotto event of the year as it’s the single draw that creates the most millionaires every year!” she exclaimed.
“With up to one-in-three adult Australians expected to buy an entry in the $30 Million Megadraw, we are expecting a surge of interest as we inch closer to the end of the year. Wannabe millionaires are advised to get in early and purchase their entry for the chance to see in the New Year as a millionaire!
“As always, we are encouraging our players to register their entries so we can get in touch directly with the life-changing news!”
