A Port Fairy family have had to pull the car over mid-road trip after today discovering they won division one in TattsLotto – over six weeks ago.

The Moyne Shire residents held one of the nine division one winning entries nationally in TattsLotto draw 3969, drawn Saturday 3 August 2019. Each entry takes home a division one prize of $446,898.09.

As well as winning the coveted division one prize, the family also won division four and division six, bolstering their total prize to $466,949.29.

Speaking with a Tatts official this morning, one family member revealed the reason it took them so long to discover the life-changing news.

“I don’t usually buy lottery tickets unless I am somewhere different to where I live,” she confessed.

“For some reason I’ve always believed if you go to a different location and randomly buy an entry you have a better chance of winning.

“A little while ago I won $1,000 doing it this way so I have always worked on that theory.

“I guess this win proves me right!

“I was on holiday in Mildura when I purchased the entry and completely forgot to check it.

“We are actually on our way to visit Melbourne and that’s why I remembered to check it because we are heading off somewhere else.

“I casually walked into the local newsagency and scanned my ticket and they told me ‘I think you had better call our head office’.

“That’s when I realised we had won. I can’t believe it!”

When asked how she felt knowing she’d been walking around with an unregistered division one winning entry for over six weeks, the winner revealed she was relieved.

“I guess I didn’t know any better at the time but it’s surreal to think I could have claimed the prize weeks ago!” she laughed.

“I’m relieved I’ve discovered the news now though!

“I’m not sure how I’ll spend it yet. I’m still coming to terms with the fact that I’ve won.

“We are in the process of building a new home so it will go a long way towards that, and we are already planning our next holiday.

“We won’t be heading back to Mildura just yet, even though it’s lucky for us.

“We’ll probably head overseas instead!”

The happy winner also revealed there were plenty of celebrations ahead when they reached their destination.

“Once we get to Melbourne, I think we’ll have a few glasses of champagne to celebrate!” she declared.

The winning family, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning entry at Klemms Authorised Newsagency, 53 Langtree Mall, Mildura.

Klemms Authorised Newsagency team member Leonie Storer said she was thrilled the winner had finally been united with their prize.

“Wow! They’ve finally come forward! That’s awesome news. I am so glad!” she exclaimed.

“We were getting worried the ticket had been thrown in the bin or someone was oblivious to the winning entry sitting in their draw at home.

“We were hoping they would be reunited with their prize soon so they could start to enjoy it, so we are just thrilled they have realised their win.

“We’ve sold two division one winning entries this year, so we keep telling all of our customers we hope to sell a trifecta soon – maybe even for this Thursday’s $150 million Powerball.

“Congratulations to our winners! We wish them all the best with their prize!”
