Recognising the devastating impact the recent floods have had on North Queensland communities, Golden Casket has donated $500,000 to the Queensland Government’s Queensland Flood Appeal.

The donation, funded from unclaimed prize money, was made to GIVIT, one of several charities appointed by the Queensland Government to collect and distribute flood relief assistance.

Golden Casket Managing Director Sue van der Merwe said the natural disaster had captured the attention of the Australian community and Golden Casket was proud to lend its support to those whose lives and livelihoods had been impacted.

“As part of our long-standing commitment to the community in which we operate, and as an organisation with a strong Queensland heritage, it is important for Golden Casket to contribute to the flood relief efforts,” she said.

“Like many, we share the concerns for the welfare of North Queenslanders who have endured an enormously difficult time and now have the challenge of rebuilding their communities.

“We hope this donation goes some way to delivering the assistance these Queenslanders need.”

About 10 Golden Casket outlets were heavily impacted by the floods, particularly those outlets located in Townsville. During recent weeks, Golden Casket has been working closely with these outlet owners to help them reopen their doors for trading as soon as possible.

The $500,000 donation follows previous contributions by Golden Casket’s parent company, Tabcorp, to the Queensland Flood Appeal.
