Australia could welcome its second biggest lottery winner in history if one person takes home the entire $100 million jackpot in tomorrow night’s Powerball draw.
It’s only the fourth time a $100 million jackpot has been offered in the game’s 26-year history.
Up to half of Australian adults are expected to have an entry in their hands before the draw’s close at 7.30pm AEST on Thursday 20 October 2022.
The Lott spokesperson James Eddy said Aussies keen for the chance to win would be queuing outside lottery outlets across the country as the countdown to the draw began.
“We haven’t seen a $100 million Powerball draw for more than three years and it seems Aussies are excited for the chance to score this life-changing prize,” he said.
“On the last occasion, in September 2019, the peak of sales was at 7.22pm on the day of the draw when more than 7,800 tickets were sold in a single minute.
“That was just minutes before the draw’s close. This time around, we’re encouraging anyone who wants the chance to win this huge prize to grab their entry early – either in-store, online or via The Lott app.”
Mr Eddy said players should register their entries to a player card or online account so they can be immediately contacted should they win big in this week’s $100 million draw.
“We’ll be on the edge of our seats eagerly awaiting the results of this week’s Powerball draw and will be standing by ready to reach out to any registered division one winners. If you see your phone ringing on Thursday night, it could be us, so make sure you pick up for a chat,” he said.
“In January 2019, we dialled a Sydney mum straight after the draw to tell her she scored $107 million in Powerball, and she answered the phone immediately!
“We’re ready to crown our second biggest lottery winner in lottery history if one player takes home the entire $100 million Powerball prize – only time will tell!”
Tickets into Powerball draw 1379 on Thursday 20 October 2022 can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
