A Nelson Bay man’s quick dash to the supermarket for cherry juice has turned into a life-enhancing grocery shop after he bagged a Lucky Lotteries win worth $200,000.

The Port Stephens resident held the 1st Prize winning entry in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1729 drawn, Tuesday 28 October 2025. He looks forward to a total prize of $200,000.00.

When an official from The Lott called to confirm his thrilling win, the stunned man confessed he was in disbelief and struggling to believe he was holding a ticket worth $200,000.

“Thank you very much! That’s great news!” he laughed.

“I can’t believe my ticket was a winner.

“You know it’s a funny story. I have a ritual of going grocery shopping every Wednesday and getting a couple of Lucky Lotteries tickets.

“However, on Saturday, my wife wanted me to run down to the grocery store and grab some cherry juice.

“While I was there, I thought to myself, ‘I’ll just grab my usual set of tickets even though it’s a Saturday’.

“Those tickets ended up being the winner. So, if I didn’t get some juice that day, I wouldn’t have won!

“My wife and I honestly can’t believe it.”

With $200,000 set to boost his bank account, the generous couple shared they looked forward to sharing the joy with their nearest and dearest.

“We have a few friends and family who we would love to help,” he said.

“It feels great to know we’ll be able to lend them a helping hand.

“For now, we’re going to pop open a bottle of champagne to celebrate the winning news.”

His winning entry of five random numbers was purchased at Nelson Bay Newsagency, 2/55 Donald Street, Nelson Bay.

The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $15.52 million for draw 1730, while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot prize is now $1.28 million for draw 11046.

In FY25, 182 Lucky Lotteries 1st Prize and Jackpot Prize winning entries across Australia won more than $20.5 million.

Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot and Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot are raffle-style games, which means there is a set number of tickets in each draw. As each ticket number is unique there is no sharing of prizes.

Each game has two draws – one that determines the winning numbers and one that determines the jackpot number. If the jackpot number matches one of the winning numbers, then the Jackpot Prize is won. If the jackpot number does not match one of the winning numbers, the Jackpot Prize will climb for the next draw.

Tickets can be purchased at any licenced lottery outlet, online from thelott.com or via The Lott mobile app.
