After news about a mystery Keno winner went viral, a Hackham man’s friends encouraged him to check his ticket, leading him to a $50,000 surprise.

The happy man scored the $50,000 Keno Spot 8 prize in draw 210625 573, drawn Friday 25 June 2021.

Speaking with an official from The Lott this morning, the South Australian man admitted he almost missed out on his $50,000 win.

“I actually wasn’t at the venue when the draw happened. I had gone in that day to catch up with some friends over a bite to eat,” he explained.

“While I was waiting for my food, I decided to pop on some Keno, but then I completely forgot I even bought myself a ticket.

“I probably wouldn’t have even checked my ticket, but then a friend called me and said someone had won the Spot 8 prize and so I knew I had to check my ticket.

“I just had a feeling I’d won the prize.

“When I saw it, I was surprisingly calm about the whole thing – you’d think I was used to receiving this kind of news!

“But it’s a very nice win and a great surprise.”

When asked how he planned to enjoy his windfall, the happy man said he needed time to let the news sink in.

“Honestly, I can’t even really think about what I am going to do with it until I see it in the bank,” he admitted.

“It feels like a bit of a dream still!

“I will certainly find some way to enjoy it, don’t you worry about that.”

The winning entry was purchased at Aussie Inn Hotel, 108 Main South Road, Hackham.

Aussie Inn Hotel assistant manager Erin Mutton said the entire team was celebrating the win.

“It’s fantastic news,” she shared.

“He’s a regular and local customer, so we really couldn’t be happier for him.

“We wish him all the very best with his prize and hope it brings him happiness.

“We’d love to deliver him and all of our other patrons more major wins in the future.

“Keno wins like this always create a great buzz in the venue, and we can’t wait for our next big win.”

In 2020, there were 37 Keno Spot 8, 9 and 10 winners across South Australia who scored more than $5.81 million.

The Spot 10 prize was won twice during this time – a win worth more than $1.3 million was won by a Croydon Park man in February, while a win with more than $2.4 million was won by Taperoo man in November.

Keno is a game whereby 20 numbers are randomly generated from a possible 80. To win a Keno Spot 10 prize, a player must match all 10 of the numbers selected on their ticket against the 20 numbers drawn.
