While many people imagine newly-minted millionaires celebrate their win with champagne and caviar, a Happy Valley woman is bucking the stereotype by celebrating her $1 million X Lotto division one win with a nice cup of tea and toast.
The South Australian held one of two division one winning entries nationally in Monday X Lotto draw 4030, drawn Monday 30 November 2020. Each entry takes home the guaranteed $1 million division one prize.
Sharing her excitement with an official from The Lott this morning, the happy winner recounted the moment she discovered the life-changing news.
“I’m a little bit confused, to be honest! I just went to the newsagent to buy the paper and scanned my ticket, and they said they couldn’t pay it,” she explained.
“This isn’t a joke, is it? You’ve got no idea how happy this is going to make my family.
“Like everyone, we’ve had a bit of a sh*t year, and this will help everyone get back on their feet.
“I’ve been playing these same numbers for donkey's years. I reckon 20 odd years I’ve played them every week.
“I’ve always thought one day they’d win the big one.
“My late husband chose those numbers all these years ago. I don’t know why he chose them, but we’ve been playing them ever since.
“He’s looking down on us from heaven very happy!
“I’ve been running about all morning, and I haven’t had any breakfast, so I’m going to go and get a cup of tea and some toast.
“I might want something a bit stronger later, but right now I just need to sit down and let it sink in.”
When asked how she planned to enjoy her million-dollar windfall, the generous grandmother said she was eager to help her family.
“I’ve got two sons with families of their own who I can help!” she declared.
“But what I really want to do is get myself some new fences for my house.
“We’ve lived here for 46 years, and I’ve always wanted new fences, so I’m finally going to get those done!”
The winning entry was purchased at Happy Valley Newsagency, Shops 4 & 5, Happy Valley Shopping Centre, 100 Kenihans Road, Happy Valley.
Happy Valley Newsagency owner Kuldeep Patel said selling a winning entry was a real boost for his outlet.
“So exciting! It’s crazy! When I saw the email telling us we had sold a winning entry, I was thrilled!” he exclaimed.
“It’s the first division one prize we’ve sold, which is really exciting.
“We’ll be telling all of our customers about the win, and they will be so happy for us.
“There was a fire in the centre this year, so we’ve had to move to a smaller kiosk while it is getting repaired and our customers have been so loyal and supportive during this time.
“It’s a great boost to our customers and our team members morale to know we have sold a major prize.
“I’m probably as excited about it as the winner is about discovering they are a millionaire!
“Congratulations to our winner! We are so pleased it has gone to a local and a regular!”
The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday X Lotto draw 4030 on 30 November 2020 were 31, 38, 42, 13, 5 and 9, while the supplementary numbers were 1 and 30.
Across Australia, there were two division one winning entries in Monday X Lotto draw 4030 – one each from South Australia and New South wales.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 178 so far this financial year, including 19 won by SA Lotteries customers.
Last financial year, Monday & Wednesday X Lotto created 127 millionaires across Australia.
Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, there were 101 division one winning Monday & Wednesday X Lotto entries across Australia, which collectively won more than $98 million.
