A Hastings Point couple travelling around Australia are thanking a mistake that led them to buying the “wrong” lottery ticket, and ultimately scooping up a $621,000 Saturday Gold Lotto prize.
The duo held one of the eight division one winning entries across the country in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4085 on Saturday 12 September 2020. Each entry won a division one prize of $621,499.92.
The happy pair did not register their entry to a player card, so officials from the Lott had no way of contacting the winner and had to wait for them to come forward.
Today, the couple checked their ticket and discovered they were division one winners.
“Oh wow! Oh my god!” the winning man said.
“Can you believe I was actually meant to buy a ticket into another draw? This was actually the wrong ticket.
“It was a complete mistake, a very good mistake.
“I am glad I bought this ticket. I am very, very, very happy!
“This is amazing! It’s beautiful!
“It’s just fantastic.
“It will make the world of difference to us. It takes a lot of pressure off.
“I just can’t believe it. I only remembered to check my ticket when I saw on TV that someone won Powerball last night.
“I am flabbergasted.
“You’ve made our day, our week, our year.”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their prize, the overjoyed duo said they already had a few ideas.
“We’ve been living in our caravan in Queensland for the past few months, so this means we can update it and get a new one,” he said.
“We will also share it with our family and use some for more travelling.
“The rest we will save for the future.”
The winning entry was purchased at newsXpress Central Highlands, Shop 26 Central Highlands Market Place, 2-10 Codenwarra Road, Emerald.
newsXpress Central Highlands owner Sally Murphy said she couldn’t be happier for the winners.
“Emerald is only a small town, so we’ve been very busy checking tickets, hoping the winner would come forward,” she exclaimed.

Last financial year, Saturday Gold Lotto created 127 millionaires across Australia.
The winning numbers in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4085 on Saturday 12 September 2020 were 31, 28, 12, 39, 36 and 27 while the supplementary numbers were 6 and 24.
Across Australia, there were eight division one winning entries in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4085 – three from Victoria, three from Queensland and two from New South Wales.
The Lott’s division one winning tally has now reached 283 so far this calendar year, including 76 won by Golden Casket customers.
Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, there were 318 division one winning Gold Lotto entries across Australia, which collectively won more than $346.12 million.
