A Kippa-Ring couple’s 50th wedding anniversary was memorable for more than one reason after they scratched a top prize of $10,000 on a $1 Instant Scratch-Its they received as a gift.
The top prize winning $1 ticket was purchased at Nextra Carindale News, Shop 2004A Westfield Carindale, 1151 Creek Road, Carindale.
Sharing his excitement with an official from The Lott this morning, the winning husband recounted the moment they discovered their instant windfall.
“On the weekend my wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary, and my nephew bought us 50 $1 scratchies because he knew my wife loves playing them,” he said.
“My wife scratched all 50 of them and told me we had won. I thought it wasn’t real. I thought she was just joking.
“She gave it to me, and I looked at it and thought ‘it does look real’. But we took it to the newsagency just to make sure.
“That’s when they confirmed we had won!”
When asked how they planned to enjoy their windfall, the happy winner declared it had come at the perfect time.
“We’ve both just retired this year so it will come in handy for that,” he explained.
“We’ll use some of it towards hosting a big family Christmas I think!
“We haven’t done much to celebrate just yet, but I think we’ll treat ourselves by getting some takeaway while we watch the State of Origin tomorrow night.
“Who knows we might be celebrating Queensland winning as well as our top prize win!”
Nextra Carindale News manager Tracy Renwick was excited to hear her outlet had sold a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“Awesome! That’s great! Very, very good news!” she exclaimed.
“We haven’t sold a major prize for a little while, so it’s exciting to hear we’ve got another winner.
“We are very happy for our winner, and it’s fantastic we have such a generous customer.
“Congratulations to our winners! We wish them all the best!”
Between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020, there were 151 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $11.8 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 29.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $235.25 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
