A Maitland husband and wife have both chucked a sickie and are busy writing their resignation letters after discovering they won more than one million dollars in Monday’s Lotto draw.
The New South Wales couple held one of the three division one winning entries nationally in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 3872, drawn Monday 27 May 2019. Each entry takes home the guaranteed division one prize of $1 million.
Sharing their excitement with a NSW Lotteries official this morning to confirm their prize, the pair recalled how they discovered their life-changing win.
“Thank you,” the woman cried with joy.
“I feel like a millionaire!
“Our daughter came over last night and said to us ‘I think you’ve won the lottery’.
“She knows our numbers and saw them on the internet.
“We also saw that you had been trying to find a winner in Maitland!
“Then we checked the numbers in the paper and on the internet and there they were, our numbers were right there!
“It’s just unbelievable!
“We always play those same numbers. My husband has been playing them for about 40 years. They’re based on birthdays, addresses, ages, that sort of thing!”
The hardworking couple said they’d already made plenty of plans and would be wasting no time when it came to enjoying their prize.
“We’re still working at the moment but there’s no way we’ll be working anymore!” she exclaimed.
“I’ve already chucked a sickie for work tomorrow!
“We’ll both be putting our notice in straight away. It’s going to feel really good to write our resignation letters.
“Retirement has come years earlier for us!
“We can retire and look after our children and grandchildren.
“We also want to travel and see different places and enjoy our time with our grandchildren.
“My stomach is just full of butterflies!”
The happy couple, who wish to remain anonymous, purchased their winning marked entry at Greenhills Newsagency, Shop 39 Stockland Shopping Centre, Greenhills, East Maitland.
Greenhills Newsagency owner Brenda Kavanagh said they were no strangers to big lottery wins in Maitland.
“It’s such a great feeling to know that one of our customers has received this life-changing surprise!” she exclaimed.
