A Mount Gravatt man says he has his brother to thank for his $250,000 win, after being inspired to purchase a ticket because of his brother’s 'winning streak'.
The winning $10 Star Fortune Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Nextra Garden City Level 1, Shop 1358, Westfield Garden City, Upper Mount Gravatt.
Speaking to a Golden Casket official to claim his prize this morning, the Brisbane man explained how he came to purchase the winning ticket.
“My brother had been on a bit of a winning streak lately and told me he’d almost won the big one on the Lotto, so I decided I might try my luck as well and buy an Instant Scratch-Its ticket,” he shared.
“I even used my lucky coin to scratch the ticket! When I saw I’d won the major prize I was stunned. I told my wife but she thought it was a joke!
“She was very shocked when she realised it wasn’t.
“We are still stunned now. It doesn’t feel real!
“We are going to celebrate tonight with our family. We have bought a nice bottle of champagne for the occasion too.”
When asked how he planned to enjoy his instant windfall, the stoked bloke shared his ideas.
“We are still trying to decide what we will do with it,” he explained.
“We are thinking of getting an investment property and doing some renovations on the house.
“I will give some to my brother as well, because if it wasn’t for him, I would have never bought the ticket.”
Nextra Garden City Level 1 employee Hayley Payne said the outlet was celebrating selling a top prize winning ticket.
“The winners came in and checked their ticket here,” she explained.
“They were so happy! It made everyone’s day. We are just as excited as them.
“They are such a lovely family. We wish them all the best with their prize and hope they enjoy it.
“Hopefully this is the start of a winning streak and we sell more major prizes to our customers.”
Between 1 January and 31 December 2019, there were 114 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across the Lott’s jurisdictions who collectively took home more than $9.61 million in top prizes.
During this same time, Instant Scratch-Its players enjoyed more than 27.1 million wins across all prize tiers worth more than $208.8 million. This equates to more than half a million dollars won on Instant Scratch-Its every day.
