A Taylors Lakes maintenance worker is keen to hang up the work boots for good after scoring a $1 million division one prize in Monday’s Lotto draw.

The happy winner held one of two division one winning entries nationally in Monday Lotto draw 4012, drawn Monday 28 September 2020 and takes home a division one prize of $1 million.

The winning ticket was unregistered, which means officials from The Lott had no way of contacting the winner and had to wait for him to come forward to claim his prize.

Sharing his excitement with an official from The Lott, the winner recounted the decision that led him to hold the winning ticket.

“I couldn’t believe it when I realised I had won!” he exclaimed.

“I play every week, and I usually just grab a QuickPick entry. I hadn’t checked my ticket until yesterday when I saw the numbers on the website.

“However, due to the restrictions, the stores I usually go to have been closed, which means I’ve had to grab my entry when I do my groceries instead.

“When I bought this ticket I looked at the newsagency, and the line was quite long, so I thought ‘I’ll come back after the groceries and grab my entry then’.

“When I’d finished my groceries and came back, there was no queue, so I went right up to the counter and asked for my QuickPick.

“It’s crazy to think that if I had waited in line, or come back later, I might not have bought the QuickPick that got me those numbers.

“It felt like someone was looking down on me telling me to go into the store at that time!

“It was a sign from heaven!”

When asked how he planned to enjoy life as a millionaire, the hardworking maintenance worker said he was eager to retire immediately.

“I’m in my 60s and still working hard, so it’s a dream come true to be able to retire,” he explained.

“I’ll be able to buy a unit with some of my prize and retire on the rest. It’s really going to change my life.

“I haven’t done much to celebrate just yet. I went to work today like it was a normal day.

“I wanted to wait until it was all confirmed before I told my children. They are going to be so happy for me. I can’t wait to be able to help them out too.”

The winning entry was purchased at Taylors Lakes Lucky Lotto News & Gifts, Shop 8, Taylors Lakes Shopping Centre, 3 Melton Highway, Taylors Lakes.

Taylors Lakes Lucky Lotto News & Gifts owner Joe Asciak said he was thrilled to hear his outlet had sold a division one winning entry.

“Selling a division one winning entry creates such a buzz in our outlet with our staff and our wonderful customers!” he exclaimed.

“We have sold a few division one winning shares in syndicates recently, but it’s very special to sell a $1 million division one winning ticket.

“In the 15 years we’ve been here we’ve sold eight division one winning entries, and it’s great to have had another to add to the list.

“We’ll be decking out our outlet for a party as we want to spread the word we sold a $1 million ticket. It’s time to celebrate!

“Winning division one is fantastic! We hope our newest winner will enjoy their win! We wish them all the happiness in the world with their win!”
