From a young Sunshine Coast woman planning an ‘isolation celebration’ to Set for Life game changes delivering plenty of division two wins and a long-running syndicate of ‘battlers’ rejoicing their multi-million-dollar win, here’s some uplifting lottery stories you may have missed this week.

Young Sunshine Coast woman won’t let self-isolation ruin her lottery celebrations

A Sunshine Coast woman in her 20s admitted winning $100,000 in a Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw this week gave her a complete sense of relief in these troubling times.

“No way! No way! Oh my god! Um, this is awesome,” she cried.

“Ahhh I am so sorry. I can’t seem to stop crying! Holy moly!

“I still have a job at the moment, but as you can imagine, this will help me so much.”

While she wouldn’t be leaving her house to celebrate, she declared she’d be having an ‘isolation celebration’ which included ‘good drinks, good food and good company’ with her partner.

Set for Life game changes bring happy division two winners

How would you enjoy an extra $5,000 a month for a year? Well, that’s the question being contemplated by the three recent Set for Life division two winners.

The most recent division two winner was a man from Picnic Point in New South Wales who said he “couldn’t stop doing backflips” after discovering his win.

“You bloody beauty! You won’t be able to wipe this smile off my face! I’m grinning over here like a naughty teenager,” he laughed.

“Gosh when I first saw the win on my phone, I thought I was going to have a heart attack! I had to go and have a heart tablet and lie down!

“Just because I can’t leave the house, doesn’t mean I can’t buy anything. I am going to be online shopping.

“I am not going to be cooking tonight either! I don’t like cooking. I am so sick of it! I am definitely going to be ordering takeaway tonight to celebrate!”

Earlier in the week, a Leura man also won the Set for Life division two prize and had already begun writing a list of all the fun things he’d do once out of self-isolation.

“I will save my prize until I can actually do something. Of course, I will share some with my family,” he declared.

“But when we can finally go out again, that’s when the fun can begin! I will go out for a really fancy dinner and have some lovely red wine.

“You can certainly count on me to have fun with my prize, don’t worry about that!”

Syndicate delivers multi-million-dollar win to Clayfield locals after three decades

Twenty-one Clayfield locals started their week on a high after discovering they won almost $3 million in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.

The winning syndicate was sold at Eagle Junction Newsagency, 272 Junction Road, Clayfield.

Eagle Junction Newsagency owner Bruce Cannell said he couldn’t be happier for his local customers.

“Could you believe that syndicate has been running for 32 years? Nineteen of the 21 syndicate members play every single week, one of the original blokes is still in it as well.” he exclaimed.

“There are certainly a few battlers at the moment during this tough time.

“We’ve got some small business owners from the local area who are in it. This will be enough to keep them afloat during the hard times.

“One man told me he will finally be able to retire because of this prize.

“There are plenty of good stories to tell! It’s fantastic!”

The Lott, via Golden Casket, will donate $1 million to help accelerate Australian research into a COVID-19 vaccine.

The donation will be made to The University of Queensland’s School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences, one of six research facilities worldwide tasked with developing a vaccine against COVID-19 by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations.

The donation from Golden Casket, part of the Lott, Australia’s official lotteries, has been funded from unclaimed prize money.

At the current rate of research and development, it is expected to take up to 18 months before a vaccine is available to the public.   However, with additional funding, the vaccine could be ready six months earlier.
